Kim Wilde: Closer (New album and tour) (1 Viewer)

Is she going for any kind of thematic link to Close or is this just a way of flogging a few extra copies around the tour? :D

Her alien material didn’t really do it for me but that’s GOOD.

I still think Here Come The Aliens was better than it should be. There's some great stuff on it and Ricky and her still have a way of writing a hook and melody like few others.

On first listen, I find Trail of Destruction good rather than great, but I need to play it a few times before I make a decision.

As we all know, I LOVE me some Kim, but I do think I'd like her to revisit the moody, electronica synth-led Kim at some point.

Not sure this really clears it up but:

‘Closer’ is the follow-up to Kim Wilde’s massively successful 1988 album ‘Close’. While it captures the spirit and style of her earlier work, this new album introduces a modern perspective, blending nostalgic elements with contemporary sounds. Kim Wilde’s signature mix of pop, new wave, and rock—known for its infectious hooks, powerful vocals, and anthemic choruses—remains at the heart of her music, ensuring ‘Closer’ will resonate with both longtime fans and new audiences.

"Rocket To The Moon" is an Aliens leftover, surely!? :D

More sightings stories incoming. If it was ready to go you would have thought she would have included on the deluxe or GH. Maybe a work in progress.

If this is a Close sequel then maybe Love Is Love is a more inclusive follow up to Love In The Natural Way. I do worry that the closing track seems to suggest Belinda-esque chanting...

Super excited, Kim and Ricky can be hooks galore when they want to be and they obviously feel this is worthy of a comparison and take what they do and what it means to the fans quite seriously actually. Anyway, this was on the deluxe and it's one of my very faves:

I've had a thoroughly pleasant post- Close day at the office, having spun through Never Say Never, Love Is and Love Moves, in that order.

You forget until you throw them together how often she banged on about the environment and the world dying :D

This just popped up on my Spotify and it’s really good!

Didn’t even know she still made music…

I'm seeing Cyndi and Kim, and if she wasn't sold out I'd be tempted to complete the trio with Alison just to see if she's as RELENTLESSLY MISERABLE in person as she is on her podcast. :disco:

Dame Kim looked fabulous (the faffing around with the cape!) but she sounded a bit off, especially with some of the timing on the first couple of songs. She warmed up a bit but I think she usually sounds better. Maybe it was partly the festival show set up.

Kids wasn't fantastic (a tad out of breath). She's usually so strong live so I'm not worried. Haven't seen the rest.

The three reissues are out today. Pricey, but the 20% discount code HARDROCKPOP20 now works for them on Cherry Red, so that knocks a bit off.

Next single Midnight Train 7 November:

(I don't think the link to her Facebook post is working).

If it's not working I'll detail: no sound clip, limited 750 physical copies and an early 80s inspired banger.

I think the picture might be better than the album cover, but the overall art direction is very much in line with the previous on Cherry Red.

Looking forward to hearing the track. The early eighties reference is interesting, I'm wondering how much of a Close sequel this album is really going to be.

This feels more like a follow up to Here Come The Aliens than a Close sequel. I’m struggling to find a connection though I guess Trail Of Destruction could be intended as a lyrical Hey Mr Heartache update.

Yeah this calls back to Select if anything. I like what they are doing here, though I wish her vocal popped just a little more.

Like most of her post-garden years albums so far it seems this will have more in common with early eighties Kim rather than the Closer pop queen.

Kim, Ricky and Scarlett had a chat about Closer with Lee, it’s 90 minutes on Spotify, haven’t had a listen but did enjoy the ones he did with Kim and Ricky for the anthology release.

That was a nice listen. Kim as lovely as ever and interesting to hear just how involved Scarlett was with the album. It sounds like Closer might be more of a sequel to Close thematically rather than in sound.
