Morcheeba

NEW SINGLE ALERT.

More of the same but I'll take it. Here for a new album if that's indeed on the cards...

How odd. I have just put their first album on for the first time in several years & this thread immediately pops up out of the BLUE

It wasn't really covered in this thread (probably elsewhere) but their Blood Like Lemonade album from around 2010 was a massive return to form for me, and they've been pretty good with the couple of albums we've had since then.

Aside from the first album (still love "Moog Island", "Trigger Hippie" & "Tape Loop"), I've only ever listened to "Big Calm" - always thought 2 albums was all I needed but I might give the later stuff a try. Presumably this is with a different singer than Skye?

No Skye got back with them for Blood Like Lemonade and the quality returned with her. She's been with them since. A quick look at Wiki tells me they've had two albums since then with one on the way. I don't have much memory of the Blaze Away album (2018), but Blackest Blue (2021) was pretty great in parts. But Blood Like Lemonade is where its at.

I've given "Blood Like Lemonade" a listen tonight as I'm clearly in a Morcheeba MOOD - I was wondering if it might be MUCH OF A MUCHNESS but it was a lot better than I expected from a band returning from a long hiatus.

It's exactly what I'd expect from them but all just done really WELL - they should have followed up "Big Calm" with something like this.

Apparently one of the band said it was "dark and psychadelic" and I like that - I think the tone of the album played to Skye's strengths. I think that's it with Morcheeba - Skye has a certain range and some songs or sounds work better than others. Blood Like Lemonade felt like it all clicked.

Crimson, Even Though, the title track and Easier Said Than Done are my choice songs from that album.

The new one sounds like something from Blue Lines or Tricky's Maxinquaye. It takes a minute, but it's brilliant.
