  • Sit down on your ass! Or what's left of it after four years in the Navy.

  • I'm not queer. Lee... I'm not queer. I'm disembodied.

  • Do I smell like vomit?

  • I like the guy, but I can't stand to be alone with him.

  • Thanks for running interference, Tom. I hope he got the idea.

  • He keeps trying to go to bed with me. That's what I don't like about queers.

Daniel did a great job of being repulsive despite his natural ATTRIBUTES. I can only assume it was an intentional choice the Drew Starkey character has nothing going on? Was the point Daniel wanted affection in whatever vessel it came in?

Anyway I enjoyed this whilst it was happening but it’s so much weaker than any of his other films.

The Guardian review (2 stars) has reminded me how APPALLINGLY cheap some of the sets looked. :D

The jungle scenes looked like they were filmed in tight close-up at a provincial garden centre.

I’ve never read the book but I got the feeling this is a much more compelling story to read, and the prose probably adds a lot of depth and interest that doesn’t easily translate to film.

I assumed the sets were so artificial looking, or clearly models, because the whole film was meant to have a dream like hallucinatory feel.

...and the reason the hot one was so devoid of character, is because he wasn't actually real - either a younger version of Daniel Craig's character, or at least a fantasy of youth that he had long lost. Or am I reading too much into it?

Having watched the clips of him and Harris Dickinson, he’s insanely charismatic naturally so it must’ve been intentional as we got none of that on film!

This is only showing at the DEAD OF NIGHT here, in a tiny screen that keeps selling out. The local gays are obviously KEEN.

I had a ticket booked and paid for this tonight and I just…forgot to go.

I saw this last night and really liked it! It helped having generally lowered expectations of it, but it had a dreamlike quality which was rather compelling. The jungle sequence is a leap, but the shots of their bodies merging into each other/other people were worth it. It reminded me a lot of Cronenberg’s excellent Naked Lunch, though it’s much more accessible than that.

I didn’t realise that was Lesley Melville until about 10 minutes in :D

Better than Challengers for me.

I don't think much has been said about how hard this bombed?

$48m budget / $5m box office! quite surprising given the strong reviews, Craig playing gay, Guadagnino being on a hot streak etc.

then again maybe a film like this that even for queer audiences seems to have niche appeal should not have had 50 million dollars thrown its way!

This was… not really good. I didn’t care for the characters or their stories. The only interesting part was in the jungle where it seems like they were finally about to gain some depth. But no, that was quickly followed but that convoluted ending.

I read the book this weekend which was 10/10 incredible.

I think I'll finally check this out now it's on Mubi. If only to see how they stretch such a slim story into a 2hr+ epic!
