Ridiculous world record from Sydney having only really started her season competitively:

About the same as last year, though. She hardly competes. Last year I think she ran the 400H something stupid like once outside of trials and Tokyo.

Even more ridiculous over the weekend was Shericka Jackson leaving Elaine and Shelly-Ann for dead and running 21.55 to win the Jamaican trials. Elaine and Shelly-Ann were literally over half a second back!

It’s bad news for Dina. It really feels like the event has moved on without her. She also suffered a defeat this weekend to Daryll Neita which must have been a massive blow psychologically- but can’t have been that much of a surprise. I predicted it as Neita really has been in great form and Dina looks slightly off to me. With Kambundji running so well at the moment, she could have trouble at Europeans over both distances.

Yes, Neita seems like a good sort so good to see her getting a moment to herself domestically.

21.55 is a crazy time. Interesting that it came from the (very good) 3rd string Jamaican

I still wonder what she’d have done if she hadn’t stuffed up her heat and eased up too soon in Tokyo. The 200 has always been her better event and she was bronze medalist over the 100.

Interesting as well to see the US hope Abby Steiner has carried her form through from the NCAAs and won last night too. She’s clearly the real deal.

It’s a shame Mboma is injured- that would have made the whole thing insane!
 
Jackson also has a sub 50 PB in the 400. She looks like she could do damage in that event if she gave it a shot , though it’s such a tough event.

Steiner looks like a real talent, Richardson is a mess.

She did give it a shot- she was a 400m specialist before 2021 and was the Olympic bronze medalist in Rio!

It always troubles me when athletes leave successful events and become suddenly ridiculously better at another. Whiffs of trying to hide sudden improvements to me…
 
Richardson is a mess, yes, but I’m glad she didn’t get through. I really do hope that’s the end of this insanity around her from the media. She just doesn’t have the performances to back up the hype.
 
Oh I meant if she went back to it now but I guess if she’s running 21.55 she doesn’t need to. Elaine and Shelly always seemed insurmountable until now.

Well, yeah, you’d think so. But it would be interesting to see what she can do now. She’s seemingly a way better athlete than when she last ran 400s.

Yes I found Angella’s a few years back after you mentioned it. A yellow paged second hand book that stank of cigarettes but a great read. I always remember her and Angela Bailey’s mutual loathing.

What an insane and terrible story. Absolutely horrible for him to have gone through, but I think it's amazing he was able to find a way to thrive despite it all.

But :D aside, yes, what a truly horrible tale. And amazing it could even happen untold until now.
 
Watched the Mo Farah documentary. Awful, and you could tell he was still looking for more answers. As noted, it is almost unbelievable that it was all kept under wraps all this time.

But yes, EXCITING! I'm gutted I'm not there- first major global championships I've missed in a long time (well, excluding Tokyo, obvs). I also am finding it really odd that psychologically I keep thinking "right, I'm off work for the next week" like I normally am, when I actually don't have that luxury anymore AT ALL :D

Still haven't watched it yet, but yes, from what I've read, it's really horrific and still astonishes me that shit like that can happen in this day and age...
 
Always glad to see beautiful, ageless Denise on the panel but can’t help wonder if she ever fancied the lead role. Useless Colin is still getting dragged out to counteract her though. Do we like Jeanette as lead?
 
I think Jeanette is very likeable, though she is still in development as lead. She does seem better at hosting than the trackside interviews. I don't really miss Gabby, I assume she is only missing as she is doing the football at the moment?

Denise looked quite fabulous, as ever. When Gemili calls it a day, if he is interested in punditry, I think he would be good.
 
Denise really is looking as beautiful as ever isn't she :disco: I like her as a panellist rather than being a presenter, I would think.

Watched quite a bit from last night, the time difference is going to make me miss most of it live in the week. Is there a highlights show in the evenings UK time do we know rather than trawling through iplayer

Glad the USA didn't get their own way. Bol at the end was magnificent for the silver
 
As skeptical as I was, I’m loving the mixed 4x4s at championships. It’s just a shame they can’t work out a way to get all the big names involved without hurting their individual races.

I don't think they are doing highlights shows. They are repeating the evening sessions from overnight during the day.

I assume that the evening shows covering the morning sessions will have a bit of a recap of the previous day.

I enjoyed the mixed relay as well.

Ouch at Holly's snapped pole, must be very unnerving too.
 
I suppose they have the football going on at the same time so need to work round that.

In other important news I am not sure about the stripy GB kit. There are a lot of stripes about that all look very similar, think they are all Nike.
 
The mixed 4x4 was an early treat. That woman’s 10K was very tight.

I wasn’t keen on the camera angle for the 100m heats.

Yes, the channel hopping will take a bit of getting used to (for me) but it’s understandable.
 
Two days in and I'm already destroyed by the sleeping patterns :D

As for the women's 10k, MEH MEH MEH. I am so fed up with the African "dominance". Top 8 was entirely of African origin (7 who represent and Hissan who is of Ethiopian origin). The complete blind eye World Athletics is giving to the ridiculous use of drugs in the area is insane- Kenya and Ethiopia have fuck all drug testing, I reckon the latter are blatantly doing it at federation level like the Russians. It's just not possible for a country/ area to be THAT dominant and keep churning out athletes that good year after after.
 
That men's 100 was a damp squib too really. 9.86? Still, glad to see Coleman got nowhere near the medals.
 
The men’s 100 metres is understandably in a lull following on from such a huge talent and personality as Bolt which is why it’s great the women have been producing the last few years. Thought Elaine looked like she had to work harder than you’d expect for an 11.15 but I expect she’ll turn it on later if all is well.
 
@Halli I was talking rot, there are highlights shows 6pm from Tuesday onwards. I assume that's when they move to the one session.
 
My main issues are as follows:

I don’t like the main anchor - who is she?

Too much endless talking about nothing rather than showing us actual events.

Commentators are quite negative whenever an athlete does well.

They keep repeating things I’ve already watched.

The main anchor has been around sometime- former athlete Jeanette Kwakye (6th in the Beijing 2008 100m and world indoor silver medallist), she didn't actually do the usual "straight to the chair" route, but instead has honed her craft through radio and a broadcast journalism degree. She's been doing the trackside interviews for a few years and was promoted to the sofa for the last Olympics if I remember. I love her!

But yes, too much endless talking I can agree with. Especially in the middle of the night when it's only real fans watching. We don't need to see another Laura Muir montage.
 
I like Jeanette - but yes, there's a lot of repetition, and I think we could do with some better side-guests.

@Sheena I has questions. What do we think of KJT? Do you think Salwa Eid Naser (who's obvs not here) was doping? How did Shelley at 35 manage to run so fast?! Do we think Matthew Hudson-Smith has a chance at a medal? Who ARE our best hopes?
 
Yesterday I caved and bought tickets for the commonwealth games in Birmingham. Mens artistic gymnastics! :beer:
