OMG! Yes, I love KDK. She was weirdly effective because she bamboozled everyone on her comeback who had never come across anything like her before! Also, KDK could have been an even greater player in her heyday: I remember her saying at the time that, when she was in school in Japan, people who were naturally left handed were all encouraged to become right handed. She would have been utterly mystifying to play against. What a fun and skilful player to watch :disco:
 
I just want to be the first one to declare membership of the Cam Norrie fan club. I literally don’t care that he doesn’t have any weapons. I love watching him frustrate the fuck out of most people. He played so well against Alcaraz the other day (though less said about the Coric match the better). But I think he’s such a strange character in that everyone always seems to think he’s the underdog against everyone, even though he’s now No.9 in the world… 😂

I'm been championing him for years, a true success from the American collegiate system. I think he could win several slams very soon.
 
I watched a nice analysis that basically says he is difficult because his backhand is a flat pancake of a shot but his forehand is spongy and spinny. Most people are either/or and players just aren’t used to it dealing with that combo of junk. Adrian Mannarino is a good comparison as he is much nicer to watch, but less challenging to play against as on both sides he’s spongy and spinny :D
 
Alize Cornet is so consistently absorbing in Being Alize Cornet. Suomi loves the term ‘personality artist’ and she really fits that description. I will really miss her nose, her drama, and her intriguing game so absent of m strategy or weaponry :disco:
 
You know I’ve warmed to Alize and all her antics over the years because even with all the histrionics she is always a good sport at the end win or lose. Nobody quite goes from nearly needing on court emergency resuscitation to pulling out a win 3 hours later like her.

My favourite memory of her though is when she beat Serena in the Dubai semis and said she thought she could win the final against Venus as she had beaten the “better sister” only to be dispatched mercilessly the next day by a poker faced Vee.
 
I think Cornet is probably the favourite... incredibly I'm pretty sure Emma only has 1 top 40 win since the US Open last year and I don't see Cornet backing down.
 
Should Emma lose I can imagine the press will be harsh, I'm sure she'll bounce back though. She'll also fall to around 90 in the rankings.

Even more so when you consider she won the juniors there and went on to forge a respectable career.
 
Apparently received a point penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct at 5-5 15-15 in the third and capitulated from there… think that’s probably first time she’s received one of those in her career.

I do feel for her though - if she had her Wimbledon 4th round points counted she’d be easily in the main draw anyway.
 
As I’ve said before, I absolutely love Heather(‘s mum) but that record is a joke. She was Quite Old For A Junior when she won the Girls’ - it’s not like she was a preternatural talent.

Let’s get her on Strictly ASAP and make her the new Sue Barker.
 
Also that record is like REVERSE RADUCANU - for tragic camp narrative purposes only, it would be fabulous if Emma never won a main draw match again at the US Open :disco:
 
She was also 5-3 30-love up at one point.

Harks back to match she played against Serena at Wimbledon, couldn't close it out and lost 7-5 in the final.

She hasn't been the same since.
 
Nadal, Medvedev and Cilic out of the US Open in R4 means a new grand slam champ is certain. Potentially a new world ranking number 1 too if Ruud or Alcarez progress much further.
 
I really hope Alcazar wins for the sake of talent and entertainment. I haven’t taken a player to heart like this since we Gustavo Kuerten - also great fun to watch and a very nice sportsman.
 
I think the late finish plus the fact he is 0-2 versus Sinner this year makes the next match very tough, but Alcaraz does seem very resilient. Sinner is a bit under the radar, he’s just become the youngest player since Djokovic to reach all four slam quarters.

Nice guy but Ruud at number one would be ridiculous.

Hoping Pliskova can finally snatch a slam but her path is full of roadblocks and nemesis.
 
Hoping for Ruud to be Number 1 for the LOLZ :D Wish Alcaraz had lost last night in that 5 setter just to help him out. I love ridiculous things like this.

In fact, Ruud could make Number 1 if he just makes the final and Alcaraz does not. Doesn't even need to win the title.
 
Jabeur, Swiatek and Pegula would all be very credible winners.

Gutten for blunt queen Pliskova and would be uncomfortable with Sabalenka winning, really because BLR.

Which means Caro will STEAMROLL THE FIELD. :disco:
 
I'm loving the names at the end of both draws - it's a bunch of really great players that should be more household names than they are and they're all proving why.

Even better is that Khachanov has taken out Kyrgios. :D
 
I'd much prefer a Tiafoe win over Alcaraz, just because Alcaraz has a lot longer to do it.
 
Jabeur CRUSHING Garcia was surpising, but Ons played pretty much a perfect game. I wasn't convinced on Ruud as a potential number one but he has played some stunning tennis in the past few matches. Khacanov has no answers at the moment.

Edit... that aged well! Khacanov takes the third set after looking down and out in the second.

Good for Iga. In control in the first, messy second set, not a finals for the ages unfortunately but it is what it is. :disco:
 
Whoever wins tonight is world number one and deservedly so. Alcaraz has had a superb year, so has Ruud but grass season aside, quietly so.

I can't see anything other than Alcaraz winning in 3 or 4.
