The 97th Academy Awards

Sean Baker made a better & more succinct point than all of Brody's droning on. At least Cillian Murphy got spared the Halle Berry moment.

Wow, Mikey got the upset! Well done to her. I put a tenner on Demi after the Golden Globes, never mind. Disappointing for her but a great comeback still. Young up & coming actress getting it is a great story. What an evening for "Anora" - it was always a big ask for the Oscars to award a film as out there as "The Substance".

Demented to hear a shit Take That song playing at the Oscars

I'm happy with the winners overall, perhaps happier than in a lot of years, but that was one of the least enjoyable ceremonies I can recall

:meh:

Well someone wasn't mentioned in the memorial segment:

Do you have to have been previously nominated or something? I'm appalled: the scene from above alone deserved a lifetime achievement award at some point. Sometimes an actress can just burn through the entire screen and Doherty did it here and then some.

It's only members of the academy who are featured in that segment.

But yes she obviously deserved an Oscar for eating this scene up:

Praise Jesus. Hallelujah.

Sometimes they just decide that someone was more known for TV than film. She was definitely in the SAG list.

I’m sure two-time Oscar winner Maggie Smith would have been delighted with the Academy’s choice to use a clip of her dressed as a witch, and a clip from the second Downton Abbey film.

I watched the first half an hour of this live, wonderful opening performance from Cynthia :disco: Conan O'Brien's presenting was fun, but when RDJ started talking, I thought I'll go to sleep, skim through the rest later. 😅
I like Whoopi Goldberg (I did watch the whole of Ghost for the first time last month 💜) and was particularly looking out to see if Demi had won for The Substance. Sadly not, but still well-deserved to the actress who did. Best actor also seemed a very decent guy.
I don't usually watch the show, just the highlights on the news (or old clips like 'Adele Dazeem' and Enya's performance in 2002) but it was a rather worthwhile watch. 😊📽🪄

Next award ceremony I'm looking out for is the RTÉ Choice Music Prize on 6th March, where Enya won Classic Irish Album!

I wish they’d stop blathering on about viewership. If viewership was that important to them, they’d put it on a Saturday.
