The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Amazon Prime)

Decent finale, it didn’t gel greatly together and the elves bit felt extremely rushed compared to the slowness of everything that came before it. They literally made the rings in 20 minutes.

The biggest gag is obviously this

Well that was that then. Fairly rousing ending with the rings, but there was not much else worth writing home about, what with all the big character reveals being signposted a mile off.

No dwarves was a shame, so much time for hobbits was an even bigger one.

They’re going to have to seriously up their storytelling game for a second season. So far, I’d say the money spent has not been worth it.

Yeah, sadly the end was much like the rest of the season - talky and achingly slow.

I’m going to predict a huge drop of interest come season 2.

Didn’t realise the end credits song was Fiona Apple though, so that’s cool!

This should be a marked improvement and I'm actually looking forward to it.

They really should have found a way to run GOT and LOTR on alternating years though.

Aghast that it's back and already airing? It feels like COUNTRYFILE has MORE BUZZ

I have, for my sins. They definitely took the note RE pacing and I’m finding it a fair bit more engaging, but I fear the damage is done.

One of the major problems remains that Galadriel is just impossible to root for. I’m inclined to blame the writing more than the actress but whatever the reason she’s just insufferable.

I’m watching and enjoying, I’m not actually sure what everyone is expecting this series to be but apart from a few flaws it’s what I expected it to be. The general reviews have been solid but it seems the naysayers have shouted the loudest and that seems to be the strongest narrative.

I’m not sure how much Amazon have fiddled the stats but series 1 ended up being the most watched thing on Prime ever. I don’t think you can call that a flop really, even if they’ll never recoup the costs.

I'm frustrated with the reviews too. I was expecting a trainwreck but it's definitely an improvement from Season 1. Even with the annoying human story. The Sauron storyline is great. I just wish the Sauron actor was someone with more gravity. I find the guy playing him very unremarkable. He's not menacing but he's not charming either.

The scene where the 3 elves succumb to the rings was good. And the dialogue between Galadriel and Elrond when she asks him to go with her was excellent. I think they've done well creating that tension between free will vs. Sauron's plan.

Actually REALLY enjoying this now. Not sure what the difference is but as much as I enjoyed the first season, this is so much better.

Maybe it is the pacing.

It's taking me out a little to have the previously all-knowing Elves routinely portrayed as blithering idiots, but I agree the pacing has definitely improved from Season One.

Apparently the ratings are in the toilet though, so I do fear the production values may go a bit "Sauron is now played by a broom on a stand" by the time we get to season 3.
