I'm not advocating for being an echo chamber at all but I think that trying to understand someone's words and position when they tell you they're a bigot is futile. he's out here throwing trans people under a bus on the national stage. take him and his miserable fucking government at their word on this!

You’re absolutely right about Starmer’s worldview, which is desirable and probably even admirable in a lawyer. It’s dreadful in a politician, where the whole point of the job is to communicate what you think the law should be.

That just isn’t how Starmer operates though. Never has been and likely never will be. He’s a lawyer through and through, much moreso than he is a politician.

I’m not defending it, it drives me nuts. But that’s why this is happening, and if you’re going to fight it I do think it’s useful to try to understand what exactly you’re up against.

That’s the whole problem though, isn’t it. Starmer would probably be an excellent Home Secretary or Justice Secretary. He’s shaping up to be a terrible Prime Minister because he doesn’t really have any interest in actually leading.
 
Starmer is a spineless wretch. He flipflops depending on what he thinks the largest audience wants to hear because he has no guiding principle of his own. He got the job because he was considered 'electable' not because he actually stood for anything. And this is the result. Pathetic.

Sorry, agree with @VoR on calling this out. I've been accused myself of it in other places recently and it's bullshit. We can have that fucking discussion without being slagged off/ having our opinions (or those of others) chucked out the window or derided. It's the most irritating thing of Moopy for me at the moment.

What I don't agree with is VoR's actual assessment. I do think it's a tough line to play "We respect the decision, but...", but it is ABSOLUTELY an option they could have taken and, I believe, SHOULD have taken.

I am increasingly frustrated with this shit government. Whilst I still believe a centre-left candidate was a good idea, providing zero alternative to the right wing at this point is just moronic and shows a complete lack of leadership and understanding. For the first time in my entire life, I can see me not supporting Labour (note: I did used to vote tactically for Lib Dem when Labour stood no chance locally). My VERY GAY and previously pro-trans but VERY "follow the party line" local MP Stephen Morgan parroted the Starmer position on radio yesterday, which has wound me up immensely, but the line of questioning was around Starmer rather than him. I really need something slightly more concrete because I want Labour banned from Portsmouth Pride (which is also UK Pride this year).
 
Labour are going to get a hell of a fright the first time there is any major test of Starmer's leadership. Their popularity sank and sank during the campaign as it became clear that they'd moved from centre left to centre right and it has continued to tank. This is an object lesson in why. No principles, no real values, attacking trans people, the disabled and immigration as if they were Reform...they're useless.
 
I am aghast truly....not just because of how this ruling eboldens transpobes even further and the horrendous implication it has for an already extremely vulnerable, marginalised and misunderstood part of society, but at Labours spectacular inability to read to the room.

Their thought process has obviously been 'well this will shut up those on the right that say that Starmer doesn't know what a woman is and maybe get a few on side'...problem is these are people who are never going to vote Labour and all that will happen now is they will hemorrhage every more votes from those on the left who held their nose and voted for them last year.

It's morally abhorrent and a stupendously stupid move...honestly...want a bunch of stupid cunts.
 
You know the more I think about it the angrier I get....

Literally no one benefits from this..not CIS women(who ironically now actually may e find themselves in a situation where they have to prove their 'CISness' if they do not appear to others as "traditionally femine"(sorry for the clunky language there) not transwomen and sure as hell not Labour....spectacularly stupid.

I really hope this fucking SINKS them. I would usually say 'well no because the alternative is even worse' but I'm actually not sure that's the case anymore.

If Labour put the mayoral elections back to how they were before the Tories reinstated FPTP we wouldn't have this problem.

I've done little research and was considering not voting at all, particularly as I find the Greens approach at city council level to be slightly questionable.

But if there is any chance of Reform threatening for the win, Green it is.
