I’m in charge of the music at the work Christmas party, everyone is going to be so mad at me.
The kindergartener lady! What was that evil ?spanish one from ASFXMAS. She was definitely a forrin lady, she had her bosoms out and I seem to recall some kind of turkey moves….
Ring any bells?
#1 Fairytale Of New York
#2 Do They Know Its Christmas
#3 Last Christmas
I think we all are, really. Unless it feels in some way shared or communal, it doesn't quite work. Once a song reaches that status, well...you can see for yrselves. When it comes to festive tunes, i am a basic bitch
Don't forget Basshunter's version of Jingle Bells!I just added Whigfield’s touching rendition of Last Christmas for one.
listening to this now. it's badThe Mary j Blige edition of my favourite things
it sounds christmassy, it was a christmas #1, like Stay Another Day I'd call it a christmas song for sure. it's a feeling conveyed, it doesn't need to be a lyric.NOT A CHRISTMAS SONG
Just a song that was released at Christmas
I just don't want Jark and other lost sheep going without 2 Become 1 / Stay Another Day / The Power Of Love all year roundFinn why are you being so wicked it’s Christmas.
But not carol of the bells?Overall, I prefer the hymns: O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, Once In Royal David's City, The Angel Gabriel, Away In A Manger, O Come O Come Emmanuel, We Three Kings of Orient Are, and more that I used to sing in choir for Midnight Mass.![]()
I didn't think that much of the song or Irishness back then,
Chris De Burgh’s A Spaceman Came Travelling
Her O Come O Come Emmanuel is AMAZING. I also love White Is In The Winter Night. If I had to choose a top 3 Christmas (pop) songs:
• Mary's Boy Child covered by Boney M, though I also enjoy Harry Belafone's version
• Happy Xmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon and Yoko Ono
• Last Christmas by Wham!
Others I like/tolerate, haha.
I suppose my classmates (who also celebrated Christmas) were more into the pop songs/listened more often at home than I do. It's fine singing along to some in a group though.
In primary school the dinnerhall chanted "So here it is, Merry Christmas" when it was played for the Christmas dinner.
My Year 8 Maths class some 7-8 years ago were particularly fond of Fairytale of New York; I didn't think that much of the song or Irishness back then, but obviously now it's different.
I've only known about the Enya songs in the last 2 years; her original Oiche Chiúin (Silent Night) and The Spirit of Christmas Past are probably my favourite Christmas ones by her.
Overall, I prefer the hymns: O Come All Ye Faithful, Silent Night, Once In Royal David's City, The Angel Gabriel, Away In A Manger, O Come O Come Emmanuel, We Three Kings of Orient Are, and more that I used to sing in choir for Midnight Mass.
And finally Jingle Bells and We Wish You A Merry Christmas![]()
Another vote for Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) here, without which most of the other Christmas pop standards wouldn’t exist.
Oh yeah that one's okay. I never sang it in choir but my younger sisters did a version in school. But not carol of the bells?![]()
It is impressive and beautifully sung by Enya - but also quite a jump scare at "Gaude, gaude!"Her O Come O Come Emmanuel is AMAZING.
Ah how did I forget to mention White Is In The Winter Night, I also really like that oneI also love White Is In The Winter Night.
Do you like her accent in Adeste Fideles? It is impressive and beautifully sung by Enya - but also quite a jump scare at "caude, caude!"![]()
Not sure about her Latin accent in general, but it's still pleasant. I just prefer the song Adeste Fideles/O Come All Ye Faithful in a higher key (or G major instead of C major)Do you like her accent in Adeste Fideles?
