Pop Music Activism

Good. Sorry guys but I cringed at Lolly back in the late 90’s. I remember an annoying little girl lived next door to me at the time and played her torrid album on repeat. I never wished harm on any young child before, until then.

This could be coincidental. But I’d spent months emailing Universal France who a month ago admitted they no longer held the licence. I asked if they could put me in touch with Mylene Farmers people (she owns the rights) but heard nothing. They could have got in touch, Mylene or Alizees people might have seen the Facebook messages or it’s just one big coincidence. Either way, yay!!

THANK FUCK.

@aquaplex - Have you ever looked into getting Emma Bunton's Free Me album online? It's the only one of her albums not on iTunes.

EDIT: My mistake, it is, it's just that she's artist-labeled as 'Emma' so if you search Emma Bunton (as surely everybody does) it doesn't come up. :DAF:

Not sure if it was provoked by you but it was apparently remastered for the 18th birthday of “Moi...Lolita”, according to Mylene’s social media. That’s why it has appeared (and apparently is on the likes of iTunes for the first time too, which astonished me...)

Yeah I heard that too. I did contact Mylenes people through her social media a bit back so that may have helped or it might all be coincidental. Either way hurrah to it being back. Odd for them to say that about iTunes as Polydor had uploaded it years ago!

In fairness, it did make dig out those first two Alizée albums today, which was quite marvellously enjoyable. Both are corking.

Bad news for anyone wanting Alda's music/ album to come online... and a rather odd response from someone who works within the music industry

Has she REALLY had over a million streams of Rockin’ Robin today?

GOD SAVE US ALL :zombie:

I’m doing my part and streaming Per Sempre Amore (Forever In Love).

With Three Lions heading south, there’s an opening in the top 40 up for grabs next week!

Only Mickey has over 1m streams thanks to it being on compilations. Per Sempre Amore deffo seems to be the one that people are focused on (though it was either gonna be that, Big Boys Don’t Cry Or Rockin Robin given Mickey and Girls Just Wanna are already online).

Does she get paid for each stream? I know when it was physical CD singles the acts used to get a very minuscule percentage per sale.

I can’t imagine there is any money in this for her. She didn’t write the songs and she doesn’t own them.

Per Sempre Amore to the TOP (in our hearts)

The warm glow she must get from making a few score gays approaching middle age happy isn't going to pay the bills, though :(

I thought there were some writing credits but yeah the fees are miniscule.

However, having her stuff online allows it to make party playlists and keeps her name/music out there so that people still kind of remember her music enough to allow her to clock up a few more pride gigs rather than fall into complete obscurity.

What I want to know is if Gayle & Gillian ever had an unreleased album we can find and unleash to the masses :disco:

She's performing at Chesterfield pride
Next Sunday, not the headline act mind.

Big Brovaz vs Booty Luv have that accolade.

Do old songs appearing on Spotify and instantly getting loads of streams as a result gets them on the chart? Or are there some rule against that?

I don't think there is any rule against it - although they have very recently introduced a new rule where a different ratio is applied for songs that are not actively promoted (see what I posted about Three Lions in the World Cup thread).

I guess it's just that no releases are streaming in sufficient numbers to chart.

Indeed. Whilst Mickey is showing 1.2m streams that’s from it being on a compilation album and several playlists for a few years.

I can’t imagine there are many things that aren’t already freely available that would cause the charts much concern anyhow.

The misplaced definite article in “A Good Thing” and the shoddily reused “Blink” promo pics bode well :disco:

The cover art is fan made (no official artwork was made). The typos on a couple of tracks are unfortunate but at least it’s coming out!

In other news (this wasn’t us but it was on our list for future asking), does Moopy like/ remember Moony?

I loved Dove! Haven't heard it in years.

I even bought her album when I was on holiday in Italy. It was boring. :(

The return of Sweet Like Chocolate, while preferable, wasn't as essential as having Lolita back online.

I must admit I'd forgotten quite how essential (to mankind as Sinitta) Moi... Lolita is. I mean I would automatically have ranked it a 10 if asked, but listening to it again (repeatedly) for the first time in pretty much a decade is just revealing layer upon layer of spunkworthy wondrousness.

As I said earlier, it provoked me to pull the parent album out, which was almost as good. Mylene really was on an absolute roll at the time...

Can they not fix those typos? It can't be that bloody difficult to get things changed!
Possibly not difficult but given everything else the label has to do, unlikely.

As I mentioned on Popjustice, I just checked my emails. The very first e-mail to the label about getting Rosie's album online was... 28 November 2016.
