Melodifestivalen 2021: Deltävling Three

It's not Christer's fault it's his new heir and crown princess, have forgotten her name. Anyways it's not just Charlotte and Emil that is misplaced this semi, mess.

Okay, I feel like Elisa and Charlotte may be relatively safe now. Tusse feels like the only obvious qualifier because it’s by a man and doesn’t really have much identity beyond ‘Swedish pop’.

I’m actually a bit worried for Mustasch, since that doesn’t have the immediacy of Lillasyster’s. I LOVE Emil’s song but I feel like he’s out by default, and I don’t much fancy Klara or Alvaro’s chances despite their ace songs.

Best heat so far.
 
Seriously though I don't feel like I can rule anyone out other than *maybe* Klara (and I'm currently feeling ALL-CONSUMING TERROR for Charlotte)
 
It sounds like a great heat. I can only assume Sweden will be too transfixed by Charlotte's #young face to even think about voting for anyone else.

Charlotte and Emil being back to back really annoys me, I actually think they’re the best two.

Klara - good but won’t be top 4
Moustach - underwhelming, might be DTF but less likely that I feared
Elisa - this will really struggle for mass appeal
Alvaro - sounds far too tepid to be anything other than Fun4AndraChansen
Tusse - I’ve listened 3 times and I still can’t remember it, possibly shocked AC if the performance doesn’t elevate it

That's interesting, because I thought Elisa's would be right up Sweden's street. Sonya nearly qualified last year with a similar but weaker song, and Swedish language seems to be all the rage this year.
 
I've also decided Tusse isn't quite the safe bet we all thought he was. Everyone thought Patrik's fun4christer nonentity last week would sail through, and it flopped. I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility for Tusse to go the same way *wins the heat, the contest, then gets knocked out in the Eurovision semi-finals*

She also did it in a far weaker heat (and it was the greatest song of ALL TIME :evil:)
 
People really overestimate the likelihood of anything that wins Melodifestivalen going out in the semis these days - the jury vote is pretty much as close an analog as possible to the actual Eurovision jury vote! (and in a way it wasn't when Anna won)
 
If I'm being honest, the verses of 'Still Young' are schlager central, but the chorus is ANYTHING BUT. They've gone for a Smith & Thell sound, but it feels like two different songs to me. SORRY.

If Tusse can sing 'Voices' convincingly without the support of a million other voices :eyes:, then that's going to be very dangerous.
 
This feels really counterintuitive given what EVERYONE is saying but the way the Melodifestivalen voting works these days in the heats feels REALLY poorly set up for Mustasch - like, their fanbase is surely quite confined to one or two of the age groups at best?

I'm going to hold off making my predictions until I see the performances (because this heat feels SO hard to call) but Contagious feels like it's got much less potential mass appeal than Lillasyster did, and to me it feels like Emil might actually be in a position to swoop in and pick up a lot of the support in this heat people are expecting Mustasch to get...

Mustasch didn't sound anything like I expected it to, and I don't think that's a good thing; I like what I'm hearing, I just don't find it especially competitive. I'm interested to see the performance clip later.

Yeah, from the reviews I was expecting like a Guns N Roses - Livin On A Prayer type melodic big chorus, not the sound of the bedrooms of Columbine
