7 years of 'Rebel Heart'

I'm not Joan of Arc, not yet.

What are your thoughts, feelings and contextualisations about this album seven years onwards?

It's a buffet to take what you need from.

Ghosttown, Joan of Arc and Veni Vidi Vici are stone cold gems. I even drool over Never Let You Go, which is basically her Memory of You.

I really think we were denied something unflinchingly, judiciously and orgasmically Madonna when the original Rebel Heart and Wash All Over Me (which should have been her equivalent to the PSB's Vocal in terms of opulent Ibiza trance). Whether she lost her nerve, got spooked or just stubbornly thought she was out-smarting the cretins who leaked it, we lost out big time.

There are too many outtakes, but Revolution was an example of the folksy campfire stuff that I do think are good, but she took the wind out of Rebel Heart.

There was also a lot of misfires and the quality control an absolute low in stark contrast to the highs and unfulfilled highs.

The track list I personally would curate is on the 9.

I also love when HeartBreakCity goes a bit jazzy, Body Shop truly her Lotus, and I genuinely love the 1993 vibes of Living for Love. Borrowed Time demo was another Avicii would be classic. Ugh.

It needs a very good prune. Based on what was released (and how, with tracks all over the place), it's a 6. You could edit a decent album out of it and turn it into an 8, so she should have released that instead.

Sidenote: It needed a much stronger lead single (is Living For Love even finished?!). Plus I much prefer the demo version of the title track, even if it does sound like Kiss Me Once at the start :D

There’s a strong 10 track album there for sure but she can’t really win if she’d done that as if I knew there were another 12 or so tracks not used I’d have wanted them too.

The kind of project more suited to the 90s where you could have had 4 physical cd singles accompanied by B sides on cd1 and remixes on cd2.

Can we have a definitive tracklist? Didn't it have about 3 or 4 different tracklists across the various different versions? It was difficult to KEEP UP!

For what its worth, and it would sound hideously dated these days, but she missed a trick by canning the Avicii original of Rebel Heart (the song).
It was literally the SOUND of the CHARTS at the time, and a video that referenced the many looks and facets of Madonna's career through the ages to tie in with the song lyrics I think would have been an emotive HIT, or at least far more than Living For Love was.

I'd have put Iconic out as a follow up single too, and lead the entire campaign underlying that Madonna is the queen of pop, and always will be.

Rebel Heart (Avicii version)
Iconic
Bitch, I'm Madonna
Ghost Town

SHALL WE? :disco: It doesn't actually sound as dated as I thought.

There was a fan-made video at the time which was a composite of lots of Madonna moments over the years and it was a BIT emotional. It really could have been a mantra for her career had she pushed it.

Iconic
Legendary
Spectacular
The MOMENT (when it leaked and then gays obsessed about it for months and years afterwards even though official version was different - ugh your faves could never!)

13/10

Her worst album for me. I find it very dull, and she didn’t even put the best songs on there, the original Rebel Heart and this:

In all seriousness though - the hypnotic vibes of 'Nothing Lasts Forever' would surely be enjoyed by FUNKETTE?

The original Rebel Heart and Ghosttown are rhe sort of stuff she SHOULD be doing. Up to date, modern but not fad chasing. It annoys me she thinks otherwise.

Anyway, as has already been said, there’s a great album hidden amongst the too-long tracklisting. I’d go:

1. Addicted (The One That Got Away) (Demo)
2. Rebel Heart (Demo)
3. Ghosttown
4. Living For Love
5. Devil Pray
6. Heartbreak City
7. Joan of Arc
8. Iconic
9. Hold Tight
10.Body Shop
11.Wash All Over Me

This gave us Wash All Over Me (Wasn't it one of the last true BOPS Kanye West spat out before he went all batshit crazy?), Rebel Heart and Borrowed Time :disco:
Ghosttown really is a Madonna 10/10 moment along with Heartbreak City (And I Still Feel Shitty) !

Then again, it also gave us Holy Water and Bitch, I'm Madonna, which I'm sure she takes the fact it charted in the BB100 as proof people want more of this unbearble mess.:sour::sour: but at least there's this

I'd go for a strong 4 track EP.

But that's entirely from memory to be honest - I genuinely don't even remember nearly half of the tracklist in the slightest.

I'm giving it a play for the first time in years! I don't remember Beautiful Scars being this good! Top 90 on Spotify here we cum!
