The other rumour is that the long rumoured FF9 remake is going to be a launch game for this :disco:

If íts true that it won’t have an OLED screen then what’s the fucking point? More of a backward step to me.
 
Probably for the price factor and initial buyers will be more likely to buy again later when it does come out or else their wait for an OLED won't impact that initial demand anyway. Regardless, if it does come that "early" then I hope it gets its own Xeonoblade Chronicles X Deluxe port.

Released 2 months after the reveal? Not buying it (although I will definitely be buying the thing). I don't think Nintendo will launch with something as guaranteed as the next MK9 (or at least without something for the "hardcore gamer" market like they did so well using BotW for), but I'd be thrilled with it given 8 came out 10 years ago on Wii U.

The 3D Mario is also another "oh really" eyeroll. Christmas at the latest surely. MK was previewed as a launch window game for N64, GCN, Wii, Switch, so I'd definitely hope/expect to see a peak in the reveal video.

Surely they'll want a launch game to properly differentiate the new system, which was arguably an issue they never addressed with the Wii U until 2015 (the system's last gasp) and Switch was all about rectifying these missteps.

The only thing that lends itself to a close to reveal launch imo is the fact that images of the thing are possibly "leaking". Hope I'm wrong, but where is the time to ramp up a marketing campaign etc.

Either way, hurry up Nintendo.

Anyway if you were actually being SERIOUS, then one, it is a question my mum would ask, and two, they've said that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with switch 1 games, so there will likely be some crossover period where games are released for both.

Meanwhile, I too am excited for Switch 2 now. I feel there are some things hidden in plain sight there: like the rumoured joycon as mouse function. The Mario Kart footage is hard to properly gage any graphical leaps as I watched on a 1080p screen and it was a screen within a screen, but the zoom out could show quite a lot of what will be big things in this game (my mind wondered about the petrol station being used, the return of being able to use weapons against players driving on the opposite lane and also the scale being potentially huge track-wise).

Consoles have life cycles. Replaced consoles still get support for a little while, be it smaller exclusives or cross-gen titles that previous system can still handle. Switch 2 will be able to play Switch games. Zen was absolutely fine above. The language used even after the apology wasn't.

I don't really know why they have focused on the hardware at all. It is fundamentally looking like just a (hopefully significantly) more powerful switch 1, so it will need the games to really sell it. Having a quick shot of a Mario Kart that doesn't immediately look massively different from MK8 seems like an odd choice.

At least the Wii U had a gimmick!
 
I'm assuming we can re-download games from the shop rather than transfer, and that the caveat of some not being possible referring to games no longer being on the eshop and therefore not being able to be downloaded onto the S2.

Speaking of Wii U (my favourite console of all time), I'd love to buy 2 Switch 2's and use one as a gamepad. Make it happen Nintendo.
 
I wonder if they'll face the same issue with this as the Wii U where people don't realise that it's an actual new console and not just another random version.

You've got to think there's a reason they've held off on Ocarina of Time for as long as they have.

The brilliant Wind Waker remake they did for the Wii U is also definitely going to hit the Switch 2 early.
 
The trailer is fantastic. The only thing clear is that it's going to be bigger physically, but it's more than enough to get the excitement going. Mario Kart 9 (if that is what we're seeing) is going to be an absolutely killer app.
