Theatre 2025

I can’t really imagine anyone going to see Titanique when they have not seen Titanic :o
I'm going in March, I only saw it in full for the first time last month.

Obviously I've seen it in parts before, but I was never previously super into it, to commit to the full thing.

That it's a Titanic parody was fairly low on my list of reasons to book it.

I'm seeing SMASH ON BROADWAY in March :disco:

I have a few other slots available, thinking Death Becomes Her, Maybe Happy Ending and Sunset BLVD which I missed in London

Sounds interesting. Just booked some Lucky Dip tickets for a weekend matinee. Can rarely go wrong with £12, 75 mins and no interval.

Just booked for Midnight Cowboy the musical. I was intrigued before, but now they’ve announced the cast I had to book. One of my fav current young actors Paul French is playing Joe Buck, and Max Bowden (Ben from Eastenders) is Ratso!

Just walked past the Bristol Hippodrome, where the matinee of Only Fools And Horses The Musical is about to start.

I've never seen such a gammony queue outside a theatre :gross:

I remember laughing at the show. But yeah, 90% of the audience were likely making their first and last theatre trip for the decade or beyond. It does the job to attract the audience to that show, but not for creating new theatre goers in general.

Well, I would not recommend Mrs. President as a play. Just opened at the Charing Cross Theatre so I took a chance as have seen some hidden gems there before.

Still, 70 minutes straight through so at least it wasn’t too much of a slog.

I've just been to see Second Best at the Riverside Studios, starring Asa Butterfield. I just loved being four rows away from this Netflix (and Amazon Prime - justice for "Your Christmas or Mine?") star, but it really is quite impressive, by himself for 90 minutes, and perfect casting for the character.

There's a section where he's at height, sat on a hospital bed that is attached to the wall near to the ceiling. He's moving about, legs dangling over at times whilst not hooked on to anything. Made me anxious! Don't know how anyone can maintain the acting and not have the fear of tumbling over at any second.

Scissorhandz was certainly SOMETHING. Nice to see Emma Williams back on stage again though, and the campier it became in the middle was great. The “romance drama” of it was just not needed and tonally all over the place, with a frankly shit lead performance. And the jukebox songs were either brilliantly hilarious, or just mind boggling.

I went to see the version of Streetcar at the Noel Coward theatre which was good, although some of the more emotional moments of the play were ruined slightly by the appearance of a wanky, interpretive dancing ghost-twink.

The actress playing haggard, washed-up old Blanche (27) was very good in spite of the interpretive dance going on around her.

Rather enjoyed Mean Girls. Much more than I expected, although the songs are instantly forgettable. Still, it’s better than both the original and musical films and the staging and choreography is great. Loved the video design, particularly Regina getting hit by the bus!

I trumped for Titantique over Mean Girls in last weeks theatre week sale. I hope this was wise!

Booked to see ‘Loves labours lost’ next week. Considering ‘Dead Mom play’ for tomorrow…..

Clueless was RATHER GOOD. Not as funny as Mean Girls, but the songs were better and lead performances got you more invested. It falls down by being too much like just performing the film, but none of the songs were throwaway and all moved the plot or characters forward. Similar in style to Legally Blonde.

The second act is notably better than the first, especially when Christian turns up. The best difference being the party/date with Christian changing from a college party with Ska music, to a Swing night at The Roxbury - gave the opportunity to have some brilliant choreography!

Has anyone else seen the Inside No 9 stage show? I’m curious to know which celebrity hostage you had? We had Paul Chuckle :D

I thought it was good, if a bit uneven. The first act was much stronger than the second.

Gareth Malone. He was surprisingly down to earth and very funny. I didn’t enjoy Bernie Clifton’s Dressing Room at all. I didn’t get the point of something that was barely unchanged.

The star casting for Evita announced as Rachel Zelger!

Take all my money :disco:

They were really working their way through the West Side Story cast list. Ansel Elgort waiting by the phone.

Oh no, the initial response to Smash on Broadway sounds like it could be a bit of a mess. I hope they can fix it during previews, but it really sounds like it could have done with an out of town tryout.

With a score like that and the talent involved, it surely shouldn't be that difficult to salvage.

Posted in Saturdays daily thread, but if anyone can make it to Liverpool to catch Shirley Valentine in the next couple of weeks (where it originated and originally staged in 1986!) - please DO!

Rachel Zegler IS Eva Peron in the Palladium summer production of Evita by critics' darling Jamie Lloyd.

I'm going to have to go along to see this, as his Sunset Boulevard was just so good.

Jodie Comer has just announced a ‘homecoming’ gig. Will try for tickets, but it’ll be carnage no doubt.

I have tickets for 39 Steps at my local theatre in a couple of weeks. Reviews both proper and word of mouth recommend.

Vanessa Williams has extended her run on Devil Wears Prada to October.

I bet they’re throwing a ton of money at her, she’d be particularly difficult to replace I imagine.

They’re really raking it in with that one. Been a LONG time since I’ve seen any show at the Dominion never bother to discount it even be part of London Theatre Week.

This is the only Devil Wears Prada thing I've seen, and fucking hell :D!
