Did we know Pink Pony Club is getting a 7" vinyl release in January?

This was previously a US only RSD release and was/is going for stupid money, especially given that its b-side is Naked In Manhatten.

Pink Pony Club +4 to 13 on UK Spotify today - looking at a new peak this week... LATE but I'll TAKE IT

Pink Pony Club rises to new peak of #18 on the Hot 100. Top ten seems possible given its gains on streaming and airplay.

Wow that’s so crazy, the Grammy effect is that big?

In the uk I mean

Pink Pony Club was very narrowly #2 behind Kendrick last week, and overtook him on streaming on Spotify yesterday - so, absent any big new releases, it looks like she's in pole position for her first UK #1 this week.

Still not worthy of its own moopy thread, though :(

Clearly she has Elton John and his Oscars party performance to thank :D

The Grammys performance was a total triumph and we should definitely hold space for it here :disco:

It worries me that a song this good, and its brilliant parent album/artist, almost fell through the cracks. I don’t understand the how or the why of it. (I’d say it’s happening on a smaller scale with Baby Queen, but at least the deviants of Moopy Forums know about her so maybe that’s just a good old fashioned gay interest flop.)

Such a shame that her next release is going to be so overshadowed by Sugababes and their jungle bop

It literally happens all the time. There are thousands of artists who present their Pink Pony Club to their label and label goes "nah, that won't be a hit, go write a hit" and they try and write a hit and that gets rejected as well and then they get dropped and its over. The reason we have Chappell Roan right now is Dan Nigro who believed in her and leveraged his success with Olivia Rodrigo to get her back in the game. What Roan had that so many others lack is that one breakout song - the slow slow rise of Good Luck Babe was as fascinating to watch as it was thrilling. No video. Not on the album. Tiny pressing of 7" singles after a few months (and then a few more pressings right enough). It felt genuine, a proper organic hit. That's what most artists never land - you mention Baby Queen, I think she's excellent but that's what she's missing, that one breakout song that makes people dig in.

There are a few equivalent stories where one person within an industry rescues an artist from the chop and then they finally break - Manic Street Preachers were about to be dropped after The Holy Bible sold poorly but Rob Stringer was already high up in Sony and he said, no, let's hear what they're going to do next, let's hear the demos and then decide. Those demos included A Design For Life, it was agreed to let them make the album and they broke out.

At least these days the songs can still get released onto Spotify and have a chance of finding their audience after being used in a TikTok. Now I’m well aware that that model has significant problems of its own, but it’s still better than some record company sleazebag deciding who gets the marketing money based on how good a blowjob they give.

Well, indeed. It must have been galling for Island's UK division to watch Roan break as more and more people heard the music and responded to her while they were desperately trying to manufacture the same for The Last Dinner Party in the UK and having to settle for "indie-credibility" levels of sales.

Mind you, the annoying thing about this number one is that it will inevitably lead to the BBC claiming it as a success after declaring her the Sound of 2025.

Saw this on the way to work lol

They didn't even give it a brief writeup when it happened, surprisingly!
