Isn't Morgan Wallen that racist guy, or am I mixing him with someone else? I wonder how he became so popular. I guess it makes sense in Trump's Era.
He was caught on camera saying the N word, got “cancelled” so the country fans rallied behind him and made him a megastar so everything he releases hits #1 now.

:octy:

Do you have to be a country singer to get away with it? It didn't work for Paula Deen.

I think what helped is that he has good songs and was backed by the likes of Joe Rogan and Theo Von which the MAGA gang loves.

Off topic: we don't have anything remotely close to an N word, the P word or anything similar, I can't imagine anyone being cancelled by using a word in particular. So for me is hard to understand that that word is constantly used in hip hop music; we don't get censored versions here because of the language, so every time they play a hip-hop or rap song you hear N this, N that, it's all the time. Doesn't that make it difficult that at some point you use it singing or in any other way (not insulting someone or being a racist I mean) and getting in trouble? Because it's present everywhere. I was thinking of that poor blonde girl in UK Big Brother, some of you have to remember this incident, that used it to look ghetto, or god knows what she was thinking, when she was talking to a black girl, probably thinking it was so cool, and was immediately evicted. It was the dumbest thing you could do on live tv, but you can tell she wasn't being racist, just a bimbo. I don't know, it looks so weird to me, because here you can be in trouble because of the intention you have, not because you use a particular word. I find all this very interesting.

Sorry, back to the amazing US charts.

Yes, it's not what you say or what you do, it's the contacts you have. There you have nasty pieces of work like Chris Brown or Todrick Hall still going on. 🤷‍♂️

we do have an N-word alla hun! At least in here if you use it's usually FROWNED UPON! It's still used to describe colors though, it depends on the context. (Same with naco).

Do you? I can't think of anything similar. All I can think is things like S*d*ca or other derogatory words for people from LatAm, because you know how nice people are  but not even close to N, they're not words present in any music or anything similar, I don't know.

You'll be delighted to know we have a racial slur for the Spanish too.

I've been reading a book about the British Empire in the 1920s and those words, especially the N-word were used without thought. Interestingly there was opposition to it back then as well. Debate about it, isn't new. But it's use evolved, to ownership. Much in the same way FAGGOT and QUEER have.

One exclusively for Spaniards? I'm curious, which one is that!?

I was thinking of faggot, but straight people use it a lot too among them, obviously as a degrading word, but usually in good spirits, you wouldn't say it unless you're close, so I don't find it offensive. I mean, everyone calls motherfucker to their best friends at some point, which means you're very close, so it's far from an insult, Sme for other words. I don't know if it makes sense.

I love that you two talk to each other in English out of respect for us plebs, but it would be much sexier if you just spoke in Spanish :)

Only if the older gay contingent get to talk to each other in POLARI :disco:

It's just text, no point without a sexy Mexican accent.

I met a guy from Bolivia ages ago, when I was living abroad, and we always had to go back to English to understand each other, because of the amount of different words we have for literally everything, We even have different translations of titles for the same movie, it's insane.

- Have you watched "The rebel nun"? It's a classic.
- I don't know that movie, what's the original title?
- The Sound of music
- Oh we know it as "Smiles and tears"
- What
:what:

And please someone tell me the offensive word for us! I don't think we have any for European countries... oh wait, for French, sort of offensive. For whatever reason they're much hated here. 🤷‍♂️

“Lose Control” only has a few weeks left before surpassing “Blinding Lights” for most weeks in the top ten. And then “A Bar Song” is threatening to overtake both thereafter. I don’t hate either of these songs but it feels like they have almost gotten their by default given the state of the charts since about 2022.

Don't they literally retire songs from the hot 100 after 52 weeks, or have I made that up? Would be a small constellation to the horrible stagnation of their chart.
