Is the reference to it being like a greatest hits because it’s that good, or because they’ve been releasing random songs for ages and it’s like a collection of those? …or both?
Because its that good! New Romance, Masquerade, Over And Over, Superstar, Pink Funeral all sound like HIT SINGLES despite not charting anywhere
They've been releasing EPs of 4/5 songs from this album over the past 4 months, so not random songs over an extended period which would have been a bit tedious.
If you're new to Beach House they basically don't have a bad album
The first two albums (Beach House and Devotion) are quite different in sound though. A lot less slick.
One Twice Melody is a really good starting point to be honest, despite its length. I'd probably dive into fan-fave Depression Cherry next, then Bloom (which is where their sound started to change up), then critics fave Teen Dream. I ADORE Thank Your Lucky Stars too, which was released a few months after Depression Cherry and most see as a companion album
But really, everything is good - even the B-Side collection which features the incredible Chariot which is one of my fave songs of theirs.
