Cyndi Lauper - New documentary + farewell tour (1 Viewer)

Are you sure? Even I thought he said that. I had assumed he'd said it as a result of it being clear Cyndi thinks it's a terrible song.

Anyway, that show has never been a good fit for Cyndi. Although I did enjoy her still liking all her outfits.
Yeah I watched the clip he said it on recently to make sure. He said it was a mistake when answering could you not just have had both.

Ahh. So he also spoke about it for something else. Not a live interview. I'll try and find it later. I can't really watch tik tok things - they don't play in full, maybe because I don't have the app downloaded. That's good though if it's clarified as that as I found him saying it quite horrible actually.

Some live Cyndi on Sky Arts this Saturday. A New York Town Hall show from 2004.

Tickets for Glasgow (far side and back) are £69. I won't buy just yet, but I'll just go myself at that price or if they go cheaper (hopefully) as no one I asked was remotely interested (although a trip to Brazil was contemplated and I'd absolutely love to see Cyndi in one of the South American countries as she did very well down there). I'm just curious with her supposedly putting on more of a show given her comments about what technology can now do. Supposedly, her Rio show had some initial sound issues (good lord), but was much better than Glasto (I'm almost too scared to watch that again as I was fine with it).

^ was lovely to see Cyndi get to play in front of another huge crowd this year in Rock In Rio. £69 seems pretty reasonable price to see her when you look at the pricing of certain others.

Tickets confirmed. I decided to just go in closer and went with section 009, Row KK. £137.90. Seeing her little preview picture yesterday with the backdrop just made me feel this is a totally unmissable tour. I don't actually know the person I'm going with, but someone on my instagram took the bait and they might even be a bigger Cyndi fan than I am, so frankly I am more than happy to talk about Cyndi's career the entire evening. Annoyingly, it's someone I misread a message ages ago from and might have given them a rather full on compliment, but hey (now), etc. So that's Cyndi and Kim - my goodness, what a double whammy of legends so far.

She’s announced some Australian dates next April too including the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. She is making some seemingly ambitious bookings on this tour for sure but I’m hoping it’s selling ok. She had quite a few hits there too.

Yes, I’ve got Belfast tickets for the last night of the UK stint. Otherwise I’d have certainly considered a wee jaunt over to Glasgow. Strangely enough I’ve never made it to Scotland but will be rectifying that this month!

I actually used to think you lived in Glasgow!

I see she's got The Veronicas for Australia. I hope the UK gets someone equally good - I would absolutely love to see the Vs.

I mean: Iko Iko and Funnel of Love? No thank you. The rest will be fantastic.

Oh i think it’s a good set list if so but I think the first two are on too early and one at least could be moved to the middle section where there aren’t as many casual listener known tracks. I’d move the fourth song to opener if she wants to open with something from She’s So Unusual. Of course there’s a ton I’d add but got to be realistic.

Its an a obvious cover but she could so get away with rolling out her What’s Going On these days.

I saw a few clips on a friend’s Facebook who was at the opening night in Montreal. Full house and she’s sounding very good in the clips (as per her norm).

Watched a tiny bit. Very happy with that (looks/sound). I think Iko and Funnel can get yanked out and replaced by at least Into the Nightlife, but otherwise it's what a Cyndi Lauper greatest hits (... and then some) setlist probably should be :disco:

I’d like to see her replace one of the songs each show with a deep cut. And agreed “Funnel of Love” could be chopped with “Into the Night Life”

These would be on my wish list for a swap for Iko Iko any given night:

I Had a Love
Maybe He’ll Know
Calm Inside the Storm
What’s Going On
Heading for the Moon
Unconditional Love
Primitive
Unabbrieviated Love
That’s What I Think
Unhook the Stars
Hot Gets a Little Cold
Echo
Lay Me Down

Tonnes of pictures, but I am just in awe at her and for her here in such a huge venue that's packed.

She's so unusual and she so deserves it.

I hope the show sells everywhere but I think this year really has been the year of her getting her wider dues with the upgrade in Glastonbury stage (which was why I was a bit gutted that the sound team didn’t get their act together) and Rock In Rio slot.

So out of the POP! list:

I Had a Love - imagine vintage Blue Angel footage playing on the backdrop

Maybe He’ll Know - gimme the Special Mix and a plethora of Ultra HD True Colours imagery

Calm Inside the Storm - I like it, but no

What’s Going On - I love the single edit and would have expected it over blooming Funnel, which absolutely no one has asked for.

Heading for the Moon - okay I would probably be in a flood of tears here if she did do it, but I'm not sure, maybe it could go before Sisters as it has that folksy feel. I mean, what a stone cold 20/10.

Unconditional Love - "I'd like to dedicate this to Susanna". I'll say it again: this is her lost 3rd US #1.

Primitive - no, Pop, no!

Unabbrieviated Love - sort of fits the Gloria Estefan production that even Madonna chased after on LaP, but not in this setting.

That’s What I Think - I feel we've covered the deep cut rustic folksy anthem with Sisters (of which catches fire much more)

Unhook the Stars - lovely, but no.

Hot Gets a Little Cold - "I'd like to dedicate this to Jan". My very favourite SoA track, but I don't think it would work in this set up of a casual fan Cyndi bonanza.

Echo - yeeeeeeees!

Lay Me Down - "I'd like to dedicate this to... [*mumbles*]" A real missed opportunity for Cyndi. Had she let this onto the Kleerup album it might have even got a single release and video funded by his label. Sigh. This would really work, a big thumping ballad that pulls together her own strengths and knack for untamed fragility with a song that might have people going "oh that's a bit like Robyn" etc.

Are you going to see her in Belfast?

I've just been offered a free ticket for the London show so WHY NOT! I shall get the wine in.

My tickets to the Manchester show have now been upgraded twice (second time was today) as they've evidently been closing off more and more unsold sections. Yay for the better view but a bit :( for Cyndi.

I did think an arena tour of the UK was ambitious...

I didn't realise she was doing arenas. Just looking and you can still get row 8 in the front central blocks. And better than that if you go for a package.

If I was tempted (if she was playing Cardiff, I may have been), I think I'd hold on to the last minute, as there a lot of resale tickets available as well, and most of those people are going to have to massively reduce their asking prices to have any hope of selling when ticketmaster is already undercutting most of them.

Woah looking forward to front row !

I hope the UK shows don’t seem drab to her after the full houses she’s been playing to in North America. However, I had a look at the ticket map for her gig here and its been mostly greyed out for quite a while so looks like a healthy audience here.

I think the Manchester arena was FAR too big a choice for her. 23,500 capacity?!

Glasgow has sold very well at least. Pleasantly surprised.
Ah that’s good to hear, so it just seems to be the English dates. Perhaps a lot of the casuals went to the sold out RAH gig last year and that gave them enough of a Cyndi fix to decide they didn’t need another London one, who knows but yeah the capacities there seem a tad optimistic.

Cyndi was on Graham Norton on Friday. Think it was a last minute booking given she came on later, didn't sing and wasn't really asked anything interesting.

Saw her tonight and just JOYFUL. Her vocals were amazing and she was bloody hilarious with her rambling stories. Of the less obvious stuff so glad to see her do When You Were Mine and she gave Money Changes Everything HER ALL.

She really is delightful. She probably could have snuck in another song or two with slightly fewer rambling anecdotes that didn’t really go anywhere, but it was all part of the charm.

Aside from the obvious ones, Money Changes Everything was definitely a highlight. She really took it to church! :D

Her voice really is a thing of wonder too. Whatever went wrong for her at Glastonbury didn’t seem to be in evidence at all tonight.

Good selection from her whole career. I didn’t expect to hear Shine or Sisters of Avalon!

Only major disappointment was the lack of All Through the Night. They definitely could have lost the Wanda Jackson tribute to make space for that. I also would have liked That’s What I Think and some representation for Bring Ya To The Brink, but I knew they weren’t as likely to get an airing.

She did give Hat Full of Stars its due with Who Let In the Rain and Sally’s Pigeons, which was very moving.
