Eastenders 2023 (1 Viewer)

Fantastic episode tonight. It’s the kind of episode that I’d have said this time last year was them gunning for the awards, but we’ve had about ten episodes you could say that about this year. What a time to be alive!

They’ve got Simon Ashdown in to write the next two and there’s limited info available on them so they could be ones to watch too.

I have a fair bit to say about tonight's episode.

Unlike yesterday's which was fantastic in a slightly different way, this was classic EastEnders. The last five minutes felt genuinely electrifying, although I have lost count of the amount of times the show has played out that exact scenario at the climax of a storyline like this. I guess they'll be needing to write Bobby Brazier out pretty soon, so I guess this was a fairly last minute intervention in the storyline to allow them to do that.

He's been such a revelation though - I've really enjoyed watching him recently and he is so believable as Little Mo's son, which made that little nod to the past at the end of the episode even more rewarding. Loved that. I have to say though, I am so missing Kacey Ainsworth as part of all of this and I wish they could get her back even for a couple of episodes.

One last thing is that it felt like a bit of an ill-judged move to have their "not all men" subplot after the strong message of yesterday's episode. I get that it was a bit of an attempt to tell the other side but it was clumsy and perhaps not the right time.

All in all though, loving this week.

Oh Freddie :(

But honestly what an absolute psycho Theo is. Everyone hates him, he’s spent the day being verbally abused by the Square with everyone publicly saying what a little pervert he is and that Stacey wouldn’t touch him… at what point would he think his ridiculous little excuses of it being a “lover’s tiff” would be accepted anywhere?

Is this even realistic?

But what a very dark episode :(

That was quite gripping and a very uncomfortable watch at times.

Although I'm sure everyone knew exactly what was coming as soon as

Chekhov's iron

Made an appearance. What a callback.

Also someone please explain who the lady in the pub with dark hair with Freddie is. A recast Slater sister? Another Slater? Lucy Beale 12.0?

EVE. Stacey’s wife - a friend she met in prison and they got married as part of Eve having a stable home relationship to get out of prison despite the fact that Stacey isn’t gay. She’s one of the best characters they have.

You know what? I would have not guessed THAT so I'm glad I asked.

They really should've done a Stacey, Eve episode in prison. Would've been nice to have seen them meeting etc.

Did Bernie not have a baby before the one she gave away to Stu and Rainie or am I mistaking her for someone else?

Also, what happened to Bailey? I can’t remember her being on screen for quite sometime. The actress that played her was really good for a kid actress as well.

She was pregnant before that, but lost the baby - they had a little funeral for her at the allotment :(

Diane Parrish vapes

The Sun have confirmed a pretty major return...

Dean Wicks  They're filming Christmas stuff at the moment, which must surely make him an immediate frontrunner for the murder victim?

Without spoiling anything in relation to tonight's episode, this point is actually relevant to the last year of the show in general: Perry Fenwick is so good. Considering Billy Mitchell has spent much of the last decade routinely featuring on lists of characters that fans would axe - and rightly so - he's really got a purpose now. I love the dynamic between Billy and Honey where he's the one who can't control his emotions, and she calmy internalises everything. They've become a really solid partnership to prop up the extended Mitchell family.

Perry Fenwick has always been underrated and rarely served well by the dross material his character gets.

At his best, Billy can be the most soulful of the Mitchell clan, but he's usually relegated to a footnote. He's never going to be the headline grabber that Phil is, and he's obviously never going to have the blind online rubbish gay worship that the dreadful "Ballum" get, but he does deserve more moments in the spotlight.

Who do we think is the secret investor hinted by Cindy yesterday and someone who used to live in Walford? My moneys on Shirley, and she brings Dean back with her.

It’s obviously Dean. I don’t know why they’re keeping it a secret what with those contacts they had with Linda at the start of the year JUST before the Valentine’s Day flash forward.

Anyway, is Jay dead?

I obviously totally misunderstood this. I thought there was no secret investor and Cindy would fund it herself without telling Ian that she got half the money from Marbella Nights. :DAF:

And hide profits paid to herself from Ian? Also a bit weird saying “they used to live around here”, considering Ian knows practically everyone who ever lived around there.

Yes, this was my thinking but Dean returning as a business partner does make a lot more sense.

I did see some speculation that it could be Max, but Cindy would at least know who he was since presumably she would have been following the news about Lucy's murder and the trial etc. Dean would be an unknown to her, although she was of course well acquainted with a few other members of the Wicks family over the years :tongueout:

What was Kevin Wicks’ relation to Simon again? Cousins?

Max would be interesting since he didn’t kill Lucy, but WAS mostly responsible for Stephen’s death, and he and Cindy share a grandchild. Edit - sorry, 2 grandchildren!
