Only a casual bit of scum. Although in the last two seasons I've been way more invested than I thought possible...

Incidentally I thought the SCUM term had a fun-fact story behind it, but turns out it's a myth so it's just a nasty word :(

SKATE doesn't quite have the same cunty bite to it :D

You’re not even as good as us at being vile 💅

Are you from Scum? I didn’t realise. Though actually I’m guessing not as you seem surprised at the rivalry.

Believe me, it’s life. My Dad was a mild mannered man who wouldn’t say boo to a goose. When we were kids, we used to go to family in Gosport who supported the Scummers and he would actively encourage us, nay, force us, to go into their cloakroom and hack up and spit on their Southampton scarves hanging up. :D

Jesus christ :D It's only kicking a bit of AIR on a field (he says despite screaming at the screen waving a can of Stella on occasion). I've always known the rivalry, but in the days of social media you become aware just how rabid it is. And of course there hasn't been a proper derby between them in years so I somehow imagine it to be more flammable than ever when the day arrives...

But no, not at all from there. Quite a stupid and boring story - at school I was never into football, but I think like many kids (I was a teenager) tried to take an interest given that's all anyone bleated on about. Far less about the football itself initially, I became fascinated with the idea of the league with points and the fact teams got relegated - and then I found myself finding the relegation battle far more interesting with higher stakes than a title race. And, maybe, to be deliberately contrary when everyone supported the usual lot. Of course, Southampton were always in that relegation battle (this was mid 90s) and for whatever reason I got caught up in their struggle one year and never stopped.

Well except I did stop, for years, I lost interest. It was last season I got right back into it - which was a FINE time to pick because of course they did get relegated :D

But I feel properly invested in them again now. Never been to a match though so that's next on the agenda.

The Derbys are proper violent. The city gets smashed up, the works. Can’t wait for THAT next year (cause you AIN’T going up!).

It’s an interesting rivalry- Pompey probably has the more passionate and bigger fan base, but the Scummers have been more successful in terms of being in a higher league, just without ever winning anything (which we, of course, have  ). It must be so fucking boring supporting the Scum.

FA Cup in 1976 actually :kim:

I think I'd take the run of higher leagues over winning a couple of extra trophies and languishing in...whatever depths you played about in for years :eyes:

And it's not boring supporting Saints. It's absolutely DISTRESSING

Still though, RIOTS , how fun. Can't wait to run around smashing up shop windows and screaming SKATE without really knowing why :disco:

And for what it's worth, I don't think we're going up either, but it's absolutely absurd how everyone has decided "no thanks" at the last minute and given us a last gasp chance - which is currently 3 wins on the trot. I wouldn't rule it out.

Always mid to lower table. 🥱

We’re a much bigger team than our league suggests. We had a run of bad luck- dodgy owners, points deductions for going into administration. At one point the club was owned by the fans.

We’re generally a top two league club- or “traditionally” but the current owners have refused to just pump money in as they want to get us back to the top sustainably and without just making huge losses. I get the point but it’s been frustrating. Hopefully we can build on this league win.

I do love a bit of VAR drama, but that was a harsh end to the match for Coventry.

Palace are having a typical late season surge, two big wins in a row and just one point needed to stay in the Premier League.

As a fan of over 30 years, just staying in the top league for over a decade is by far their best ever run. Although they have never finished higher than 10th in the current run.

Living for Manchester United's hot mess era. Beaten 4-0 by Crystal Palace :D
Holy shit, I missed this!

Don't fuck with end of season Palace. We're on a demolition run atm, fucking over Liverpool, West Ham and Man Utd and no losses for five games. Might only be 14th, but it wouldn't be right if they didn't finish in the normal 11th or 12th slot :disco:

If Arsenal somehow still manage to drop points to them at the weekend, I will simply expire.

Palace are looking much better since putting old Roy OUT TO PASTURE. Next season could be promising under Glasner if they can keep hold of at least one of Eze or Olise.

Palace finishing 12th always feels right. entertaining team. I predict Arsenal are gonna tear United a new one this afternoon

I read a piece about how Ten Hag might stay next season simply because they can't find anyone else who'll take the job :D

are Spurs gonna do a number on City tonight? :eyes: *clings desperately to delusion*

The Villa-Liverpool game last night was a RIOT. Liverpool have fallen apart in some style.

Here for a SPURS WIN tonight :disco:

Although if they do it means I'll be cheering Arsenal on against Everton on Sunday which is MOST upsetting

I hope Spurs pull one back at least. I’d rather Arsenal have the advantage but them going into the final game level on points would be :disco:

I'm so glad I support a scrappy underdog team that has to fight, imagine buying the league and it meaning nothing, whats the point.

Well especially if you can break all the finance and fair play rules and not get penalised. Can’t see how you can get that excited about a league title you basically paid for.

I have to say it's been a wild season in the PL but absolutely nothing tops the insanity of Chelsea oscillating between total shit and surprisingly good, being involved in several of the best/biggest scoring games of the season, finally hitting form at the end of it, and the ownership... letting Poch go.

they will regret that. the club is a total shitshow and he still did quite a good job and started building something. how long can this go on? have they identified a replacement for Poch's replacement already? are the Chelsea ownership the stupidest people in football?

I think this is unfair. not to defend City but they play brilliant football and have the best manager and that's why they won the league. the 115 charges relate to crimes committed previously and need to be resolved asap, but it doesn't mean they've somehow cheated their way to the title

so Ten Hag is OUT regardless of what happens in the FA Cup final. thoughts @Soldi?
GOOD. I mean we’ve had our worst ever season in the PL so it was surely untenable at this point.

And I mean, there’s more chance of me playing at the Euros than there is of Utd winning tomorrow :basil:

I’m baffled. I think either a key difference in opinion (rumours suggest owners weren’t willing to let him have as much say in transfers, including keeping existing players) and/or they have someone else in mind (Di Zerbi heavily rumoured).
