Germany 2025: Abor & Tynna - Baller

No reprise and Conchita with a face like her daughter's just come last at sports day :D

Revealing the percentages first without the acts :disco:
This was fun! But they could have dragged it out a bit rather than just spaffing early with the winner announcement.

Anyway, the RIGHT winner from a mediocre selection and I hope they at least do a little better than bottom five. It's kinda good.

The STONY faces on Stefan Raab and Conchita though. :eyes:

There is something quite :D at the fact three of the Top 5 in this selection were not even German. Even the winners are Hungarian living in Austria :eyes:

Best German entry since Lena. So good to have a German language song back in Eurovision that is a good representation of German music. I love it. It'll probably come last but I don't care.

The first year they've sent an entry in German since Roger Cicero - Frauen regier'n die Welt in 2007, and the first they've sent one in German with no English at all since GUILDO HORN in 1998 before the language rule changed! :o

This is going to do SO poorly. Where did it go so wrong for Raab? This can't be the result he was hoping for (see his FACE OF THUNDER again when it won! :D)

It seems like they did manage to get some decent songs/artists, but then they all randomly got scrapped in the semi finals?

Be interested to see if he comes back next year and if so what changes he makes.

Wasn't he the one that did the scrapping? It's very strange.

The song is great, hopefully by May she'll be able to sing it :D

Obviously I don't speak German (but I can if you like. Oww) but what the fuck was going on with them making the audience watch nine acts perform (TWICE) just to only have five of them eligible to win?

Was it all a big FIX to stop fire cock from winning? :(

He’s quite vocally said several times that he’s only doing it cos he’s sure he can provide another win and that they should fire him if he doesn’t provide it :eyes:

Giving up after one year feels a bit silly in that regard. Their brief little early 2010s Lenaissance (which, lest we forget, also involved him helming an 8th place in 2012 with Roman Lob) is clear testament that he does know what he's doing to some extent.

Delusions of grandeur.

Raab has always been one of the most narcissistic personalities on German TV, so him thinking he can easily just slide back in on a shrimp sandwich and play saviour with a concept of a pre-selection is 100% on track.

It's weird though because he got it so right with Lena. I guess it's that old story though, when you're somebody who famously has great instincts, and those instincts desert you, it's usually quite the faceplant. (See also Madonna, Geri etc.)

I don't think they've necessarily totally deserted him. He's clearly aware he's on a bit of a hiding to nothing with this one. There's obviously a bit of a supply issue in terms of potential quality entries in Germany at the moment, but there were definitely signs of something to build from in this selection. The best focus next year would be to marry up songs like that If Jesus Knew What We Did Last Night one with quality performers.

Wasn't the whole Raab schtick that it was this year or bust and he's not coming back?

Raab has a good record to be fair - he was responsible for 1998, 2000, 2004, 2010-2012, with a 100% top 10 rate from that. I think this comeback will ultimately ruin that for him though

The contest has changed a lot since 2012, but I'd be fairly confident if he stuck on that he'd have the ability to get Germany back into the top ten. He's a showman - he knows how to ENTERTAIN

But isn’t it just the “out of touch old man” syndrome? His last success was 13 years ago.

It feels rather Pete Waterman and That Sounds Good To Me.

I'd buy this critique a bit more if there were any sign he had much confidence in this entry!

The sound you just heard was the nail being hit on the head.

There’s very clearly a “I’ve cracked this code already” mentality going on without taking into account that maybe things are not what they were 10-15 years ago.

What’s weird is that Raab (who is clearly obsessed with Eurovision) ran Bundesvision for many years (ESC but with Germany’s states) and then the Free Song Contest for the covid years and managed to get a lot of relevant and popular artists involved with songs that ended up hits in Germany - I’m not sure what went so badly wrong this time

Well aside from Bundesvision and FreeESC, where the stakes are a lot lower, I think he has the mindset that ESC should be more for new artists. Also, I think it’s quite clear the selection format this year was organised rather hastily. It wasn’t even announced until the end of October and even then most of the format details were very much yet to be decided.

I do think this is the greatest song ever composed/sung by someone with an inner ear infection
