Gladiators (BBC reboot)

About to watch now. Although after just seeing this, worried I'll be a little underwhelmed.

You can watch clips of episodes on TF1’s website.

Unfortunately the French series got axed two episodes in and they’ve rushed the last episodes out. I guess the French just didn’t get it (though having two episodes per night and having it at 8pm was probs not a wise move).

Shame as the French series went for it with the events, bringing back Tilt, Whiplash, Earthquake and Suspension Bridge.

God even their contestants understand the assignment better.

Legend and Phantom swinging at me from the same side on that Collision bridge would absolutely give me at least a semi
 
That Eliminator was amazing

I feel robbed of no female one. Could they not just let the one who was left go round it against a Gladiator?
 
Do all the gladiators have to be pantomime villains now?

I liked it when they were friendly to the contestants and Legend was just the one being ridiculous.
 
I keep coming into this thread every time it’s bumped hoping to see men bending over wearing the tightest Lycra pants on record or hanging from rings with arse cheeks half on display and all I’m getting is chatter about the contestants and analysis of the presentation.

Moopy I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed.
 
Legend’s persona works just because it’s funny. Him not even bothering to catch the contestant on the wall, over-taking him and giving a kiss to the camera at the top was brilliant :D

Cyclone and Viper can do one. It’s just fake.
 
I can't tell if I'm enjoying how awkward these misfire attempts all are. Cyclone saying she was staying up there was excruciating.
 
This week's was GREAT. The eliminator was ace, I was v pleased for the power lesbian, and I LOVED UNLEASHED.

They're doing a much better job this series of keeping it more fresh from week to week. Staggering the introduction of new events and the new Gladiators was a good idea, and it feels like there's more variation across the board in terms of competitor types and which Gladiators are used when.

And it feels like we're getting more Phantom this year, and less Giant and Viper, which works for me thanks

I believe Giant injured himself at some point in filming so won't feature much this season.
 
I'm not quite sure what I thought of Unleash. I thought the event itself was a bit kind of basic, and I'm not entirely sure that the 'must climb stairs one at a time' rule is particularly clever - surely the contender will need to kill their momentum a little in order to manage that.

That said however, seeing the MYSTERY GLADIATOR running out of the smoke and darkness really was quite thrilling indeed :disco:
 
It looked fantastic in the preview shown last week, but basic indeed. It could definitely be tweaked into something a little more exhilirating.

Yeah the climb stairs one at a time thing feels like it just doesn’t work even from a physics point of view.

I think it’ll be a good event with some tweaks
 
The eliminator really needs a shake up. I've noticed even at the start the contestants don't conquer those big bars as fluidly as the classique contestants managed. I just keep seeing clips from those mainland Europe obstacle course challenge shows and the bog standard eliminator here is just so dull in comparison.
 
I think they should get rid of Gauntlet. It was always shit even in the 90s. Nice to see it not done last week, but clearly they love it because it’s easy to set up and gives multiple Gladiators a chance to make an appearance.

The 1 step rule on Unleash was really highlighted on last nights episode. Really stopped the contestants dead.
 
Just watching.

Poppy was doing great until those foam blocks. It's just luck whether you barge through them neatly so they night want to get a new obstacle for that.
