Gladiators (BBC reboot)

Loved them beating the living shit out of the wholesome gay contender on Gauntlet this week, and pushing him right back to the start. Just as I was thinking how easy it looked, too

Following mentions earlier in this thread I've been becoming obsessed with Pyramid. BRING IT BACK

Watch the Aussie one, it’s on every episode. Only one injury this time!

Oh yes, YouTube has taken me there! Great stuff. Gives me hope that it could return here too, unless Aussie health and safety is just less of a thing

Your host is fit, but everything bar him and Pyramid does feel lacking compared to the UK one.

Liz is good, and the humour generally.

Also bonus points for deciding not to bother with Gauntlet but having Tilt and Whiplash instead!

Viper wouldn’t be so bad if he had the panache of a WWE wrestler but the way he just grunts around and is a bit shit anyway I’m not really buying it.

I much prefer Legend as the cocky pretty bad boy.

What was the one where they were on little spaceship things that used to spin around? And is this in any of the new series?

Joust!

I've looked at pictures of Legend more than I'd care to admit to. He also clearly is prepping those one liners and easily doing the best with that character shtick.

I was watching some assault course game show in the Netherlands. I forget the name, but the Gauntlet is in need of a slight upgrade I'd say. And so far we haven't had any balance beam type chaos where both are neck and neck.

I don’t think I’d take one look at Legend without that body :D

Chung was good on the wall. A problem I'm having is when it feels like no one is particularly excellent at any of the events (hang tough sometimes neither is the Gladiator any good).

Well that was the most thrilling Eliminator we've had yet.

I am just about to watch ep 5. I thought this was the quarters but we got another week of elims...:disco:

Oh my god. I've not seen this week's episode yet but I know Wesley! I literally spoke to him last weekend :D

I should say, he does not know me. I've seen him a few times in a tin-pot wrestling promotion attended by about 50 people, where the wrestlers just hang about afterwards and sometimes you have a chat with them.

I thought they’d have selected the next best quickest runner up rather than draft someone brand new in?

That was the best ep yet! Loved it.

I thought that was unfair too
AGREED / thirded. No offence to Wesley as he was great, but it doesn't feel right that someone new can rock up at the semi finals when they have the 'next fastest runner up' route to keep going down.

It was lol seeing poor Finlay limp out in his leg brace at the start. I hope he can come back next year for another crack

Yeah it was unfair, but I don't care. Apparently they used to the same in the 90s version.

Who really knows the circumstances - clearly Wesley has been sat as first reserve for the entire series, likely sitting backstage in case anyone pulled out mid-show. It may not have been possible to pull the 2nd fastest loser at potentially short notice.

I did think he'd been watching all the previous games, and that would cancel out any disadvantage he might otherwise be at from not having done any of it before. He had the BEST strategy on The Edge, to stick to the sides and then leg it over to the other side each time he got to the end platform, leaving the Gladiator stuck metres away

He also had a bit of luck with (a) not getting Nitro on The Wall, and (b) other Finley not being able to do Gauntlet, but overall he deffs felt like a worth semi-finalist despite the lack of qualification

It was a shame Finley forfeited the game that is basically guaranteed ten points to anyone who participates. He was hot as fuck.

Could not stand injured Finley and his “I’m a rite down to erff lad” ness

Given the fastest loser has a QF place I was fine with a new face as a reserve.

Agree that it was a great episode. I wouldn't have minded a bit more exposition about what sort of injury Finley actually acquired because the way he was speaking it was like he might never regain full use of his leg again.

The better-matched ability between contestants was more than enough to compensate for the same events being wheeled out again, particularly when more of the Gladiators seemed to develop a personality. Everyone seemed much more settled into the format - even Barney Walsh.

GLADIATOR RANK:

Women:

1. Fury
2. Sabre
3. Diamond
4. Athena
5. Dynamite
6. Electro
7. Comet
8. Fire

Men:

1. Nitro
2. Giant
3. Apollo
4. Phantom
5. Viper
6. Legend
7. Bionic
8. Steel

I don't really know what the criteria are. Clearly not "how good are you at being a gladiator" because otherwise Viper would be ranked a millionth. Mostly i think i'd just like to be rugby-tackled by Fury.

Which one is the blonde female with a bit of an attitude who is always swaying from side to side? That irritates me.

Viper is sooooo bad - they really just needed to let that “bad boy” character occur naturally if that’s what they wanted. He just seems to eat microphones, grunt and be a bit shit.

Commentator: Viper looks ready to stop any attack through the gauntlet!!
*contestant smashes right through him*

Oh i do agree, although i've ranked him higher than Steel or Bionic because I barely remember seeing them at all.

Most of moopy will vote Steel highly for the same reason you do Fury.

I find Apollo equally handsome and sexless, but I think that's because he's wearing what looks like a well-fitted swimming costume. Some of the outfits are great (Steel's being designed so that his tits spill out of it is a good look), and others are less so.

Also, I don't understand Diamond's pose that she does every time her name is called. Is she placing a crown on her head like she's the Queen of Diamonds?

I feel the same about Apollo. He's undoubtedly very good looking, but has zero sexual charisma.
