L∀DY GAGA - MAYHEM (LG7)

Can I also add here to the surprise of no one that I’ve not listened to anything else all weekend apart from Mayhem

I hope you are strutting down the street to this albam like Madonna strutting past Pleasuredrome Waterloo in the Hung Up Video, Suedey :disco:

I wonder if DWAS (if reset from ACR) or Abra could nab the UK number 1 this week?

Based on the positions on Spotify & apple music on Friday you'd think not BUT the stream numbers are close, and Abra was way lower on spotify/apple last week and still somehow ended up at number 6 overall. I assume video streams are helping it out when the final chart numbers are counted. Chappell only needed 38K for number 1 last week too so not much to beat! Wishful thinking perhaps, but wouldn't be surprised to see her challenging in the mids update later.

Day 2 wasn’t bad.

Second day streams on Spotify:

TTPD - 182M (- 42%)
Cowboy Carter - 55.7M (- 27%)
Hit Me Hard and Soft - 53.7M (- 26%)
Short n' Sweet - 49M (- 15%)
Eternal Sunshine - 47.4M (- 19%)
Guts - 43.7M (- 28%)
Mayhem - 32.5M (- 29%)
Endless Summer Vacation - 24.5M (- 18%)
Radical Optimism - 15.3M (- 25%)
143 - 5M (- 24%)

US numbers only here, but DWAS aside, HBDYWM seems to have the softest drop by some distance. Killah and Abra should rebound a bit with the SNL perf “effect”.

Some of the hooks are good, but the spoken bits just grate on me now - she really doesn't need to do that anymore.

girls I'm totally obsessed with Perfect Celebrity. the Trent Reznor of it all. the sheer vocal ferocity. I need a whole album of that and Disease for real.

Michael has been really good for her but she said she almost had a moment where she would redo the whole album in the Perfect Celebrity soundscape but he talked her out of it. and for that... death pen.

Nah that's the right decision. Hence MAYHEM. We need a bit of everything thrown in there. It must not be too cohesive.

Perfect Celebrity is basically what gays think "rock" is.

I finally got around to listening to Mayhem (more than once). It’s a very solid record indeed! I don’t think there’s a single bad song on it (we’re skipping DWAS and pretending it’s not part of the album).
That’s said, nothing comes close to Abracadabra or reaches some of the highs of Chromatica.

repeated listens have made me appreciate Vanish Into You, Shadow of a Man, Killah, Don't Call Tonight and Perfect Celebrity as standouts, they're the most Artpop/Monster-coded. Well done MOTHER, I can't believe I'll witness (tee hehe) this album LIVE in a few weeks.

It is mental to me how many people actively despise Die With A Smile in this thread. Do people actually hate it or do they just want to make their point about wanting her to do pop of a specific type...?

It took some time for it to grow on me

It took a few listens for me too but six months ago...! It wasn't one of the biggest hits of 2024 by accident and if it wasn't for stuff like that in her repertoire, Gaga would have nowhere near the career she has now. Gays don't know what they should feel grateful for.

I mean at the very least it clearly does not fit on this album at all and shouldn't be here. it's there for the streams and that's it.

Trying to work out where I can slot 'Happy Mistake' into this album without ruining the flow.
I would say early-mid album! the ballads-at-the-end approach isn't the give.

01 Disease
