Luxembourg 2025: Laura Thorn - La poupée monte le son

Both Krick (last year’s runner up) and CHAiLD (last last time, but generally a big name in Luxembourg - as much as you can be :D) didn’t make the cut from the rehearsals which is mildly surprising. I wonder if the artists have been allowed to keep their own songs this time or whether it’ll be another field mostly populated by the standard NF writers

Yes I'm quite surprised that those are the two who made the cut over Krick and CHAiLD who generally seem to have better connections.

Everything about Rhythmic Soulwave sounds unspeakably hideous. :D

Anyway, hoping Luxembourg have mixed it up a bit with some of these choices. Fighter turned out pretty well in the end, but their NF was generally very safe and bland.

I have absolutely no recollection of their NF. And I think I watched that!

Some snippets are out. Letz go Basel! (sic)

Exactly like last year, every one painfully and blandly written by committee, just with one (Je Danse) that's slightly more competitive than the rest.

Even the Poupée one is oddly lifeless.

I don't totally disagree, but given their size and relative lack of a local music industry, I think - so far - Luxembourg are doing fairly well to establish themselves. Slickly professional but in French isn't the worst niche in the world to settle into.

Je Danse is really quite good indeed, and if the gays hijack it and they send Laura it'd be a fun fan favourite, if probably doomed in the semis. The rest aren't much to write home about, but as long as one of those two gets the Basel ticket it's a job well done for a smaller broadcaster IMO.

La Poupée is the tits.

Je Danse needs to avoid being too shouty, but otherwise it is what they will send to Basel and it will do well.

Are we ready for the third unmissable national final of the season? :disco:

I do think La poupée monte le son would be an excellent addition to the lineup and it’s currently the heavy favourite so here’s hoping.

I mean honestly, anyone who voluntarily sat through MONGESONG in its entirety but swerves this is clearly a bit unwell.

This format very much favours the jury winner, if they opt for one overwhelmingly. Nothing certain, but my guess is that probably favours Poupée?

The impression I get is that they have a strong stage concept for Poupée and that’s the one they’re backing. I expect it’ll go all in with the France Gall connection.

The big question mark is whether Laura can bring it to life onstage, given she’s a complete unknown.

I mean, I get what you’re saying but doesn’t the qualifying bit in bold mean the same is true of televoting?

Anyway La poupée monte le son is limp as fuck, but they all are so whatever.

No, because assigning it by % means the gross margin (compared to the runner-up on televoting) is less likely to be as overwhelming as what can be racked up with all the 12s from the jury.

I mean, obviously if one of them gets 50%+ from the televote they're probably walking away with it easily, but that's probably harder to achieve than relatively sweeping the board with the juries.

Actually, wait, ignore me. 96 is the max you can get from the jury - that's the equivalent of getting 28% of the vote from the public.

I mean it’s the closest you can get to doing the voting system used in Eurovision (although obviously SOME would argue that’s weighted towards the juries too but whatever).

Also at least it’s not like in Melfest with its stupid tappy tap voting system that results in the public vote percentages all being ridiculously close together.

Yeah, I think this may be what I'm conflating it a bit with. (although they did sort it out by switching to the demographic college in recent years)

Does the average viewer even have any idea what Poupée de cire, poupée de son is at this point? In the Francophone world maybe, but gen Z in Georgia?

Almost certainly not, but I think if they go all-in on a sixties style staging it'll be distinctive enough to potentially stand out a bit anyway.
