Newly announced for Theatre Royal Drury Lane :o

That’s a big venue for Shakespeare, but BLIMEY.

Is anyone tempted by The Baker's Wife, currently at the Menier Chocolate Factory?

I didn't think I was bothered, but then I saw Lucie Jones at West End Live, which I'd been meaning to watch for a few weeks.

Has anyone seen Come From Away? That's here for two weeks in August and looks like it's selling incredibly poorly.

I'm a little tempted, but think I'll hold off to see if I can get an even better offer.

I have to agree with @Ellie. I saw the touring production recently and wasn't impressed with the show itself or (unfortunately) the cast. There seemed to be only 5 or 6 proper songs in it, the rest was just stop-and-go musical numbers, which I found it quite annoying in the end. The only song I truly loved is Me and the Sky.

Seeing this tonight. Will let you know!

@lolly Well The Baker’s Wife was a very charming and funny show. Really exceeded expectations. I actually don’t think I’ve ever see Lucie Jones in anything before either. I’ve seen shows that she later took over the roles, but never when she was in them.

Loved the immersive experience in the theatre too. Had no idea NORMAN PACE and Finty Williams were also in it.

I've seen a few shows in the Menier over the years, but nothing too recently - most memorable was with @Star when we saw A Little Night Music with Hannah Waddingham, Maureen Lipman and Jessie Buckley. In fact that was in 2009 :o

The other two I remember seeing there was a one man show with Kevin Bishop I forget the name of, and a production of Victoria Wood's Talent, which I think she directed, but didn't star anyone of note.

I am tempted to come up for a Saturday matinee for The Baker's Wife, then. Just going to decide if I want to drag a friend or just do it by myself. Mr L won't come as there's no way he will go to London and not do Voyage

I’d only been twice before. Spamilton! and more recently for Pacific Overtures. This was the best.

I used to shy away from it because it wasn’t all that central, not realising it was a mere walk away from my old office as well as Borough Market. I really must consider it more.

@Ellie, when you say 'immersive experience', I won't feel self conscious on my own, will I? I have no issue being on my own at all at theatres normally - I got used to it when my friend worked in various ones over the years and would get me house seats. But it's not like I'll be expected to interact with people, is it?

No. they just act around you and come from all areas. There are also some seats at the front as tables in an outdoor cafe setting, with actors taking two tables and having scenes around there. They don’t come up to the side benches where most of the seats are though.

Also don’t sit in the very front row on the floor as at the very end they gently grab everyone up to dance for about 20 seconds. It was rather funny and everyone was up for it, but not for me! Row D in the aisle was perfect for us. Got my tickets in a TodayTix half price flash sale a few weeks ago.

Have seen A Chorus Line, Hello Dolly and FANGIRLS recently which were all pretty darn great.

Interval now at Next To Normal after blagging a £12 ticket. This is… trying. I’m unsure where all the praise for this comes from. The music is so incredibly AVERAGE. Once again this could have been an effective play, but someone with an affinity for tuneless bland pop, like some kind of One Direction rejects seems to have thought this was a great idea.

Jesus. I think I’d rather watch Manchester By The Sea a few times on loop for something with a more uplifting outlook on life.

Oh @cwej how exciting! Was so lucky to have seen the 2022 production on the cheap too. I actually really wish I could, but going to Paris from 18th-22nd and quite busy all the next week leading up to seeing Janet Jackson on the 28th :(

Yes I got to see it in 2022. This wasn’t actually my first choice of play to direct but this is what I ended up with and I’m very happy with it and have an excellent cast (including someone who came off of playing Marius in Les Mis on the west end last year!)
