Happy Valley should be top but I think that is still mega impressive viewing figures for the opening episode and should grow by another couple of million viewers later on catch up.

Call The Midwife followed by Happy Valley on a Sunday evening is absolute DREAM VIEWING for me.

I'm sure I saw much higher figures for Sam Ryder tweeted initially - I can only assume the the initial figures included the Happy New Year show which was listed as a separate show here. The chart here separated the pre midnight (4.981m) and post midnight (6.157m) shows, and I just averaged them for 5.569m. Years and Years managed 3.949m last year, so a considerable improvement regardless.

BARB have not released the 7 day figures for the Christmas fortnight yet. ThinkBox doesn’t include devices which is why these figures are lower than the original overnight data.

Overnight data doesn't usually include platform data either - but you're right that BARB hasn't updated for over two weeks now.

I’ve just noticed Call The Midwife looks like is has shed just under a million viewers from last year at the same time. :(

Again no platform data.

Is no platform data the reason Love Island isn’t in the top 20?

BARB has finally updated since the last week before Christmas, so I've updated this week's chart only to include platform data. If anyone has a question about the full figures for any specific programme in the missing week's, let me know, but I won't be updating every week missing.

I've indicated the platform viewing separately in the chart as well. In terms of places it doesn't make much difference at all, just lifting EastEnders over Countryfile. But it's interesting to what shows pick up the most platform viewing. Particularly EastEnders which has over 10% of its audience now not watching on TV.

I am quite shocked that Call The Midwife got the biggest bump after the platform data was added. I thought it would have had an older audience.

I find it interesting that the BBC dramas are doing so much better than ITV on platform viewing. Admittedly that's only Vera on this chart, but it's WAY behind. I did wonder if that was because Vera skewed an older demographic, but Call The Midwife would also have an older audience as well, I'd imagine. In fact aren't they scheduled directly opposite each other?

I think part of it is BBC iPlayer just being much better to use on mobile devices than ITVX.

Yes, I think so. Both at 8pm on a Sunday evening.

Incidentally, no Netflix shows or films in the chart since Glass Onion got 6.739m in w/e 25/12/2022 and 5.206m in w/e 01/01/2023.

There’s been bugger all in terms of big shows.
I realised I hadn’t checked the Coming Soon bit for a while and almost everything was the same as I remembered at new year

I'm not linking, because it was in The Smellygraph, but they've suggested YOUTUBE VIEWS may be added to viewing figures.

How many shows are streamed on YouTube? But yes, they should be counted.

I've noticed they put up more and more. I guess so many programs end up on there illegally and if they can make money from it, why not?

I've found myself browsing YouTube and watched something I could have watched on iPlayer.

Is that YouTube premium or free? I genuinely had no idea you could watch full BBC/ITV etc shows on it.

You can buy shows, but I've seen the odd show uploaded. I'm not on Premium at the moment. I don't really know how it works.

Go Happy Valley! Up 1.5 million on the first episode. :disco:

Those figures include platform viewing. Only two episodes of Love Island made the top 50 (Monday at #40 and Tuesday at #45), so I don't know the platform data for the episodes that didn't.

But the Monday increased 23% on platform viewing, and the Tuesday 24%. So assuming a 24% uplift for all episodes, I'd estimate an average audience of 2.854m, which I think would put it at around #25 or #26 overall.

I think there are a lot of people who started watching the previous series over Christmas and new year, who didn't watch the first episodes of this series live, but who are now catching up. I think we can safely predict huge numbers for the finale.

That is a fair bit down on the Summer season. I don’t know how the last Winter series fared in the ratings but from memory ( which is increasingly patchy) I don’t think it met the heights of the Summer season.

When was the last winter series? I'll have a dig...

I have heard of so many people who are catching up on season 1 and 2 then jumping in to watch season 3 that never watched it first time round. I am always a bit shocked when people say they haven’t watched it ( I know you haven’t but that is because you don’t like the violence).

That series launched with 4.483m. This series launched with 3.381m.

Down a million then. :o Maybe it is starting to lose its shine. It has followed the exact same format since the first season with the only mix up being the presenters who all play the exact same part. I know it is still fantastic figures for ITV2 though.

I cannot abide ITV Player or All4 or whatever they're called. The adverts are just interminable. It's the reason I have stopped watching The Masked Singer at all, I just cannot cope with the adverts. I'm sure that has something to do with why they don't get as many viewers on platforms.
