"something we can dance to" / not a ballad!

I've also read an interview that Danny Harle gave a few years ago, in which he said writing a Eurovision winning song is something he'd love to do, so I'm hopeful that it's not just a Dua reject and that some actual effort has been put in.

I’m optimistic and hopefully he will have a song that he can actually perform, unlike Mae Muller. To this day, I don’t think she’s ever sang I Wrote A Song in tune. It’s too early to reveal the song but it was obvious that the BBC had already chosen the entry, so I’m glad they revealed the artist early.

Between this, Slimane, Marina Satti and Raiven, I don’t think the lineup has ever looked so like an online fan contest :D it seems the theme for 2024 is fan wish fulfilment

The interview just posted confirms he’s performing under Olly Alexander.

He must be having his call me Miss Ross moment. There was a soundtrack song released very recently that I'm pretty sure was just credited to Years & Years, now it and the back catalogue is under Olly Alexander (Years & Years):

This is the earliest the UK act has been announced since Olivia Newton-John was announced on November 1st 1973 :david:

Also the EUROSEASON starting earlier makes the grim descent into January vaguely bearable.

Most (but not quite all) of Years & Years' music has been rebranded as Olly Alexander (Years & Years) including the stuff released when they actually were a band :bruised:

This seems to have happened overnight.

I have to slightly disagree with his assessment that the best time to rebrand is when you’re performing in a competitive environment for an international audience, but heyho.

Is it me or does that feel super cunty? Has he fallen out with the band?

I’ve yet to see a decent live performance of Olly but I’m sure he’ll bring it with the song. So let’s wait and see. Plenty of time for vocal lessons.

Hun he’s 15 years into his career! If he hasn’t got it by now!

I think I've only seen him live at that NYE thing and he was rough. I assume he's proven better elsewhere.

Surely he means BALLID?

If someone can find any decent live performances, please do share!

Didn't he do the New Year gig thingy the other year, that would be good to digest in terms of Vox, or Nox.

This would be a very exciting entry if it had some anonymous slag woman with low-morals attached to it instead of Olly.

My first and only thought was how sad to miss out on the traditional months of recycled rumours from the previous ten years only for someone we've never heard of to be announced at the final hurdle :(

Second thought was Olly Alexander: Live?
:ToneNervous:

Not an AWFUL choice though and surely he's capable of bringing the bangers and some performance level to make up for it. I guess backing singers and whatever autotunnery they allow these days will be exploited to full effect

It feels like we're on a run similar to 2009-11. I can see this being like Blue all over again, we'll probably have one of the best songs and a favourite but end up around the 5-10 position. Which let's face it is as good as a WIN
