That's because it is a novelty, if we had them already, the learning process of habituation would have done its work and we wouldn't be paying any attention.
Once moved to a house which was right next to an intercity train line and while at first, I was pissed with every train passing by, after 3 days I stopped noticing if trains were passing by at all.

It’s not because they’re a novelty, they’re just as distracting as flashing ads. It’s managable now, but what if more people used them?

It’s basically a new perverted form of reversed iconoclasm and needs to be stopped before it leads to civil war (like the Great Signature War we had in Denden in 2004 :)).

I mean of course if thats the way people want to go then fine, but we've taken action when behaviour on here has pushed posters away, so I don't see why this is any different.

I presumed it was just @Beverley’s avatars that are making people QUEASY

Those who opt to complain about GIF AVATARS (that don’t make them ill) are generally MOANY OLD CUNTS

I think it should be a rule that gifs are only allowed as avatars if they’re hilarious, like this:
cloudy with a chance of meatballs fandoms GIF

How about an application procedure to see if your GIF avatar is good enough
Yes! But someone gets to pick an alternative static avatar and we have a referendum to see which you get landed with FOR THE REST OF TIME

Those who insist keeping gif avatars knowing they're making some people ill are CUNTS

This is fair, if someone is using them to cause harm to other posters they shouldn't be doing that - I'm not opposed to responsible gif avatar usage though. I suppose the question becomes are we capable of regulating our own use and not misusing the privilege? Very similar to the central question of the tag debate, actually...

To be honest, only one of them was giving me a headache, and I asked if we had an option to block them all instead of telling anyone to remove it, so I was hardly inconsiderate, on the opposite to some of those gif avatars fans. But if we're giving the option I vote for "get rid", because some of them make me physically sick :(
