Monday has broken

Woke up and my first thought was a reply to someone being a DICK on social media. You know its going to be a good day.

MORNING

Still feel like SHIT and to make matters worse there are KIDS on this train

Spoke too soon, the office weirdo is back and glowering at everyone like he's trying to work out who shat in his cornflakes.

Got another permanent employee starting today. Frightens me that I am responsible for peoples rent hopes and dreams sometimes.

Good morning! Today is the start of three weeks of TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT CHAOS here, but my commute was actually fine. We'll see how things are later in the week :eyes:

As far as I can see, I shouldn't really be affected. But let's wait and see who strikes, who protests and and who actually turns up.

Awake since 9 last night. Luckily a bank holiday here and have rest of the week off to try and get back to some sense of normality.

I nodded off on the couch yesterday evening and woke at 9 and awake since. Sleep pattern's been off all week but last night was the worst of it.

Uber eats is a pain in the arse. I want to order a McDonald’s because I’m a fat pig from hell and it’s raining. But there are no couriers nearby so I can’t. But KFC that’s one minute walk away from McDs is fine??

How VERY APT. Everything else is broken, why not break Monday itself?

Warning: lengthy work rant

Okay so they decided (because of one incident a few months ago where - not even our fault - our mail server got mistakenly put on a spam blacklist and a few emails bounced until we could clear our name, but that was it, there was "an appetite for change" after that) that me and my colleague suck at running an IT department and so farmed it all off to an external company and are in the process of shutting the department down. Usual deal - glossy happy men in suits impressing the directors and it's all going to be all singing all dancing and everything will Just Work because it's no longer got us incompetent buffoons running it (except for some reason we're not fired and they say it won't affect our jobs, I guess because they need our help to hand it over, because long term I just don't see what there will be for us to do. At the moment we just got a pay rise - about equal to inflation, whoop de do - I guess to keep us sweet for that short term reason).

Except, what a surprise, they're NOT what they're cracked up to be!

One of the first big moves: email from locally hosted Exchange to 365. But do they consult us on anything, nope. Do they look into any of the dozen or so applications that hook into Exchange, including a private mail connector required for a highly sensitive multi-million pound customer, and consider moving and testing those, nope. Do they think about the mobile phones that the most important people in the company rely on 24/7? Nope. Do they even do some testing, maybe try migrating a couple of test users? Nope. Literally just "ah just flip it, we'll put out any fires after". And boy were they fires. None of the desktops actually had the "seamless" transition they were hoping for, so a mad scramble to go around every user individually and reconnect their email. All mobile access broke and all the various directors etc had to come back to site with their phones to be reconnected. EDI with another important customer stopped working. Antispam service didn't get transferred properly and some important emails are stuck at the spam filter. Couple of directors ended up with split mailboxes. It's an absolute joke...

And guess who has to put out all the fires, take all the flak for everything breaking, and yet struggle to help because I no longer have admin privileges and this company just pretty much ignores my messages (like everyone, honestly it feels like I'm talking to walls most of the time).

And then there's hardware. New director is of the "spend spend spend" mindset and wants better stuff, fair enough. Rips the shit out of us for making everyone cope with 7+ year old PCs etc, well I'm sorry but for 80% of the time I've been here our line manager has been the ACCOUNTANT. Have you ever tried convincing an accountant to spend money? It's like getting blood out of a stone. We've done "make do and mend" because for a lot of years we literally had a zero budget. The hardware is shit because we weren't allowed to spend. Now Mr Spendy is here, "oh I'll just bypass IT and buy everyone stuff myself, go around like father christmas granting everyone their wishes for top of the range dual screen monitors and laptops etc like those meanies in IT never did"

What on earth is my purpose? Punching bag?
Really, really, sick of it. I have half a mind to just walk out, but you know, got a tooth and stuff to pay for...

In a fortnight's time I'll be in Turkey  I've been trying to work out exactly what I need to do regarding Covid stuff - I THINK it's just proof of vaccination then a (£60something ) PCR test when I get back.

Do you need to do a passenger locator form for Turkey?

Oh yes, there's that too - and I have to do an overnight stay in Amsterdam on the way, but I don't think I need one for there (but I keep confusing myself every time I look it all up )

Oh this reminds me, I've a friend who may need to travel in an emergency soon. What's your proof of vaccination? And this vaccine passport?

We have an NHS app in Scotland that shows the vaccination status, but you can also request a paper copy - I've done that today, just in case (hopefully it arrives in time :o)
