Lengthy diatribe to follow

What a dreary and pointless episode.

Fun fact, this series started in 2018.

I just didn't want to spend ages writing and someone get in there first :eyes:

Hmm... on one hand I think this is a fine top 5 - any doubts I had about Daya Betty were shut down, she really has gotten a second first wind. But after last week's double elimination showing they really did mean business and finally we wouldn't get a pre-finale episode where everyone went through... I mean I like Angeria, but she definitely peaked early and over the last half-dozen episodes has lost the spark (or perhaps just the narrative).

I thought she lost the tic-tac trauma round, lost the main challenge, lost the childhood trauma round by being happy, came joint 2nd on the runway, and lost the lip sync. If they really had to cut someone, I think it would've been sad but justified. I don't think she has her eyes on the crown (unless the crown is somewhere in the balcony seats at the back.

The main challenge was a bit rushed, wasn't it? Costumes outsourced, lyrics written and recorded offscreen (with no reference in the critiques? They usually love that), and same-day choreo and filming? I wonder if something major happened during the sound recording, because NO WAY was that Bosco... something in the milk ain't right :o

1. Camden - tender hearted, bringing it to you every ball, dancer, singer, comedian - I can't somehow see her crowned but I think she is the most capable. Still has a shot too because nobody called her "professional" this week (code for "sashay away Rosé").

2. Willow - the secretive strategist has made it a little hard to connect with her, but I like her oddness in a more subtle way than Yvie Oddly. Not super juiced for a lipsync smackdown though, which might be her undoing unless she has a stunt (which she well might). That mouse runway was fucked though.

3. BOSCO! - FINALLY she is letting her guard down, Untucked was quite illuminating. On paper she is a frontrunner with 3 wins and the drag gods smiled down on her. Not sure what else she's got left to give, I hope we get the full Satan fantasy next week to culminate all this devil imagery.

4. Daya - I have to be able to change my mind, and I still think she was a cunt to Jasmine, but since then she has also let her sensitivity show a bit more, and Christ knows she has the nerve to save those amazing looks for the last day without using them. I wondered if she might sneak the last win, but good on her to escape the destiny I'm sure most of us assumed to be 5th place once her role as an antagonist was done (mind you that was about a month ago).

5. Anjeria - I love her but the vacant stares are really putting me off at the moment, where did that momentum go? Anyway despite what I said, I can't begrudge her a place in the top 5.

I thought Willow had the best verse in the song and her outfits for both the video and the runway were both excellent.

It looks like Willow is in the lead on the socials followed by Camden. The other 3 are behind by quite a bit.

Am I the only one who didn’t see Kornbread as an auto finalist? The first week I got it, but it was just flat wigs and wide eyes the whole time

I thought Willow had the best verse too. Daya the best runway.

It’s sad to see Anjeria not being on top, but I find the vacant eyes distracting too. The lip sync wasn’t very good but I thought she lost it (which made it obvious that it was going to be a double save when her name was called out first).

It’s pretty much Willow’s to lose at this point, no? Only Camden rivals her, but Ru LOVES Willow and regularly states so like he did with Lawrence & Krystal.

She was there for 3 weeks only…but she was very memorable. She’s already said she’s not coming back next season so we’ll never know.

Overall I think this is how I’d rate them/want them to do (based on the whole season):

Bosco
Anjeria
Lady Camden
Willow
Daya

She certainly proclaimed herself incredible :D

I mean I’d HOPE if she’d stayed she might have tried another approach. Yeah only 3 weeks but 3 weeks of the same (including the ball looks) - that certainly didn’t help Bosco during the 3 strap outfit weeks

I wonder why she’s not coming back though

I really can’t see this being anyone but Willow’s. I normally don’t like lazy comparisons of queens but she reminds me of Jinkx… just in the sense of a kooky queen that no-one expected to win coming in who then absolutely knocked it out the park.

All Stars in a way is both a blessing and a curse for the queens. As a producer i’d be passing over people like Bosco and Daya for the crown because they are competitive in a way that makes fucking good tv and would definitely want them back for another season.

For a second I really thought they'd solved the lack of jeopardy of the penultimate episode by having it as the top 5 and having someone go home. I'm not going to pretend I wasn't relieved they both stayed (it would've been RIDICULOUS having a finale without either - they're two of the top three!), but like...there was an obvious solution here. An Angeria vs Bosco lip sync with Angeria as the winner. Willow had the best verse and a great runway!

Is it me but is it kinda fucked how they talked about disability (and maybe have done so in a similar fashion in the past) in this episode? "You're disabled BUT you don't use it as an excuse or use it to justify a flaw — THAT'S WHAT WE WANT TO SEE". God forbid someone in the future might need a wheelchair or might be hard of hearing and they'd have to accommodate that into the challenges. :eyes:

Bosco's critiques were so negative and glass half-empty that I legit thought she was being lined up to be thrown overboard.

I did think this! I get it to some extent - you're going to be better able to achieve far more if you don't view your disability as your limits, but like...that only works to a degree. There are some things that you straight up just can't work through! (as the show implicitly concedes sending people home when they get injured - a disability can essentially be equivalent a permanent injury?)

Obviously this isn't directly related, but I have found it interesting that the two most recent injury disqualified contestants don't appear to be returning on their following seasons.

In their defence they didn’t say that for Deja Skye, the first legally blind contestant. I mean she must’ve been right?

Tee hee

Camden was my non-top top. She really commanded her verse and brought a welcome tempo shift. Night of a Thousand Thorgys needs to be a season 15 category (only because Alda might not work for the international audience).

Daya was quite formidable on the runway - how can you not love her unflinching front-stabbing schtick? I don't remember the verse, probably because I was still impressed by the Eve Harrington-ness of it all.

Angeria gave one absolutely hypnotic shot in the music video - it was so minor and yet I found it jawdropping (all the while with those cavernous eyes like someone who has drowned). To pounce on her rehearsal vibes as a critique is too much, even if ultimately she was not top 2. Her verse being so emphatic and well done was a nice surprise. She won that lip sync though (all the while in a black ensemble no less).

Bosco. I didn't see the now-familiar corset in her sketch so was really thinking it was a done deal that they had decided she was going. I thought her movement on the runway was fantastic and equal to Camden. I guess I'd call it resting Bosco face at this point. Michelle saying her winning comedy challenges was something Bosco didn't expect: I'd say it probably was the other way around. I'm surprised some of these contestants don't serve tongue on the runway with all the biting of them that must happen.

Willow. I liked the Witches of it all. The grandmother being a mouse herself maybe? I had decided before the lip sync that maybe I would want her to win as surely she'll have something ridiculous planned for the finale, but she's just not good at lip syncing and I quickly went the other way. I'm glad we have her for next week though. 2nd best verse for me - without it I'd have happily sent them home going solely on the episode. When praised for not bringing up their medical condition every week I really wished one of the right hand side gays had chipped in "but we do!"

Telephone is not my song, but we were denied it being better because of the ensembles. I'd be quite happy to have an all Gaga lip sync series though - talk about hooks left, right and centre.

Fast-forwarded the photo finish. I did laugh at Ru presumably doing a whole bit where she cried at Willow and not the other way around as one edit had a choked up voice and it may as well have cut straight to a "silence!"

Willow is probably looking like the winner here. She's witty, original, likeable, and RuPaul clearly favors her.

Lady Camden is my FAVE and to me she's technically the most talented. But she's almost too nice (which I prefer over starpower in this case).
Daya Betty is good, but it does feel like she only JUST became a contender in the last couple of weeks. Still, I enjoy her.
Bosco I LOVE, but the last few weeks she's made me doubt her a little. Probably has the most starpower of the whole lot though.

Going by the likes on the RPDR tweets, Willow is the clear favourite, with Camden a not-very-close-but-way-ahead-of-the-others second. Then Bosco, Anjeria and Daya in that order by almost nothing separating

This series is beginning to test my love of Drag Race. Absolute, over produced nonsense.

Willow and Camden are the only ones I'm invested in at this point. Angeria has been filler for more than half of the season; there's something about Bosco I just don't like; and Daya is also there.

I know I've watched this in a really condensed timeframe, but I think it may be that, after forty-seven episodes, I'm just BORED of them by this point. I hope none of them come back for All Stars any time soon because I honestly don't know how much more of them we need to see.

Oh I don’t know about that, I’d like to see Jorgeous and Camden back for All Stars.

I like Bosco but not in the usual drag race queen way, she’s got a character I probably wouldn’t have liked before but I’m sort of into now.

I’ve been meaning to bump this because I think Catwalk might be the best finale bop since American

I just caught up with this over the last week after giving in and getting the WOW subscription. Overall it's been really enjoyable, a great bunch of queens and I've even loved all the multiple saves/no one goes home business just because it's been the ultimate season in giving chances with no one able to say they didn't have a fair crack of the whip (something you can't say with early eliminations in most other seasons). The only exception to this is Alyssa, who was clearly pre-decided as cannon fodder and deserved a longer stint.

However I feel for anyone watching since JANUARY and it's STILL going on :D This has been a lot more fun watching this way, although not so much trying to avoid spoilers.

Anyway it will never ever happen and I can't believe I'm saying it, but if this was an honest game, Lady Camden is the most deserving and the true winner. She has really shone through after Angeria inexplicably faded and chosen one Willow arguably getting a pass some weeks while not doing enough to win a challenge since week one - and I don't think she even deserved that.

Camden has excelled, and consistently top outside of the wins. And she is so likeable - funny, intelligent and charming. These weird claims of being too quiet don't sit right with what we've seen at all, she lights up the workroom. Her talking heads are delightful too. Only real criticism is some questionable runway looks (the Spice Girls thing should have been a one and done job), but at least a couple have been beauties too. But yes, clearly never happening no matter how much she's pulled ahead of the pack.

Obviously, Willow is winning. And I'm fine with that. I properly love her too. But more based on personality, she hasn't quite excelled in the challenges like I hoped. One of those challenges where queens get to film a solo advert would have suited her comedy chops but I don't think we had anything like that, most of the tasks have been group based.

The Angeria trajectory is sad, I've no idea what happened because she was SO GOOD and miles ahead of the others initially. She easily won the fashion ball challenge, as well as the two she actually won, but not long after that nothing was really working. A shame because at the top of her game she could be an all time great. I'd say she's won most of the runways though.

Bosco - a prime example of being a victim of the Drag Race script. As IF Bosco and Lady Camden were somehow left fighting over the two MAIN FUCKING ROLES in the musical like no one else wanted them, and of course one won the challenge and the other was bottom 2. And of course even more, Bosco had the gold bar. I really hope at least some of that chain of events was organic but hmmm. I hate the runways, repetitive and all a bit sparse after the initial charm wore off. But she is very talented, extremely funny and mostly likeable. Not a chance of winning now surely and she is rather hit and miss. She's probably outperformed Angeria and Willow realistically, but it's hard not to warm to them more.

Daya - dear god, HOW? I hate her drag. And she is extremely lucky to get this far. Has a strong stage presence in musical type numbers but otherwise I have zero clue what she gives as a drag queen and I doubt she does either. However her constant whining has been entertaining. Yes she verges into cunty territory but equally I loved her calling out some of the bullshit like the utterly ridiculous Jorgeous win which someone needed to say. Imagine if she actually won :D

Thank you, I thought I was the only one who could do essays here :D

Yeah I don’t think Anjie doesn’t deserve to be in the top or anything, but if some things were predestined by the producers, then Anjie’s continuing hype was predestined by the fans. She is really likeable but I feel like I’m in a minority when I think “what happened??”.

Especially the roast, she just sat there with a pungent grimace on through the whole set and didn’t support anyone - you’d think it’s down nerves but she did it afterwards too. And the blank-eyed lip syncs…

I will disagree on Willow though, I feel like if it’s all down to the main challenge then she won the song for me with that entrance sway with the miniskirt and the lyrics, she really hooked me in a way that likeable reliable Camden didn’t really.

I don’t know if this is a spoiler but
There doesn’t seem to be a lipsync smackdown this some, it’s a S8-style set of 5 showcase songs, which I guess means that it’s more like comparing apples and oranges so Willow can win without getting smacked down by Camden face to face.

Not that I’m against Willow winning though, she might not have won that many challenges but she’s had plenty of win-worthy performances.

I very much agree on the Anjie front. Her winning the crown seemed like a no-brainer at the start (and seemed to make a non-starter of the competition) and I absolutely expected a strong bounce back after the mid-season wobble. Such a shame it never came.

I can't be arsed bumping the thread now, so I'll put it here, but one thing that did strike me as jarring, and no one mentioned it in the thread so maybe it's just me, was Bosco's sudden transformation in the roast episode from seemingly dead on arrival jokes, to having an airtight, fast and witty set from start to finish? I mean it didn't even seem like a natural flow of taking the feedback and improving, it just came across as an entirely different person altogether?! Maybe they edited it like that but I can't remember anyone going from that to knocking it out of the park before. It was almost like she was, god forbid, GIVEN THE JOKES :eyes: And all rather convenient after bombing the previous week, no?

I really hope it was just a clever edit - or even more ridiculous, fake-rehearsal footage, because Bosco is obviously a very funny bitch, but this show has a tendency to make one SUSPICIOUS, I can't imagine why!

He won the reading challenge and I think the panel challenge as well. I think comedy off the cuff is her strength. Even her snatch game could have been safe if they were so inclined to do so.
