Why don't we put it to a poll?
I mean .. it seems absurd to me that we have Enya and Mylene Farmer forums and not a Beyonce one?
And yes I know I put forward the case for the Mylene forum - but it was a trial and it's a bit of a ghost town (reference to her slasher movie notwithstanding) so I'm happy for it to go.

I wanted to like the Renaissance album I REALLY DID

But she promised a house album and didn’t deliver. I’m probably too much of a purist snob when it comes to dance music though.

There’s a few good tracks on there don’t get me wrong. I just expected much much more.
 
funky never likes anything fun.

RENAISSANCE was certainly a GREAT ALBUM. It pisses me off we didn't get a proper single roll out, let alone visuals. Justice for Heated and Virgo's Groove, the singles that never were.

She just needed a bit of FRANKIE KNUCKLES in her life and unfortunately he was no longer OF THIS WORLD to oblige :(
 
Mylène can only go when the fucking ENYA forum is removed.
 
I like both songs, the vocal is especially sweet sounding on the verses of Texas Hold Em but I guess 16 Carriages has a bit more about it.

I'm not sure if she has a big messy old fashioned country soul ballad in her but I would like to think so.

whatever is really being judged here I don't think it's the music. average at best/meandering old toot my TIGHT ARSE
 
I love dance music, and I’ve loved a lot of Beyoncé’s music, but Renaissance didn’t do much for me.
 
Beyonce's music is many things but "joyous" is not one of them. Renaissance was fine. There just wasn't much depth to it so it got boring kinda quick.

Cozy and Pure/Honey are the only ones I might listen to again.

Meh.

It's not shit, but I'm not interested in hearing it again. But then it's fairly well established (in my mind at least) that you apply banger to anything with a beat. Which is fine, but I'm a little more discerning, for better or worse.

I'm far from a Beyonce hater, and Renaissance had some quality moments, but like most of her albums I keep a handful and send the rest back to the glue factory.

the album is absolutely bursting with pockets of joy. if you can't hear that or think it's an album "without much depth" (despite being a literal ode to decades of black and queer dance music history wrapped up inside a modern genre fluid dance record - and probably one of the most sonically and thematically complex albums by a big star in many years), I just... think you haven't really listened.

I stand by it! I think for whatever reason Beyonce is considered joyless and aloof and maybe people find her unexciting because Lemonade was a bit that, and that impression has stuck. but Renaissance isn't joyless or unexciting. and on a forum full of gays who cream over any old mediocrity, it is suspicious that nobody likes it. in wider pop culture it does seem to be recognised as the best or one of the best pop albums of this decade at least.
