Ireland 2025: EMMY - Laika Party

Isn't this just Ireland reverting to form? I mean, without actually having any form last year- it kind of feels like they lucked out with Bambie Thug. They weren't really considered competitive and it took a pretty strong revamp to get it there. This is just the same old TEPID SHITE, isn't it?

Was Doomsday Blue revamped at all? Sounded like the same song to me

Anyway, still three songs left :)

It had a very subtle revamp but I don’t think that was behind its success, Sheena was just very late to board the train.

Not in the slightest.

It DID have a revamp, but it absolutely had a MASSIVE overhaul in terms of its presentation, which is more what I meant. No one was expecting it to do a thing until rehearsal week.

I do get what you’re saying and certainly anybody who claims to think it was a lock in for the top ten is a liar. That said, surely NOBODY was basing their judgement on that shonky Late Late Show performance. It was always assumed it’d have a glow-up of some kind.

Bizarrely, Adgy's song is produced by the same producer of "Stefania" and "Teresa & Maria"

Yeah, but the same could be said of MAPS!

I know the act ended up being problematic but if Emmy's song is anything like the last Eurovision-adjacent song about Laika we're in for a treat :disco:

Not the most inspiring selection, is it? :(

I assume it'll come down to Mumba vs Bobbi Arlo. Sam has been my dream representative for about 20 years, and the song is growing on me, but it really doesn't feel very televote friendly.

Bobbi could have some potential with a decent revamp I guess.

Can't imagine Ireland getting behind Laika Party, and the rest feel like clear filler.

I feel like that NIYL song has the best chance of a) overcoming the Late Late Show shortcomings and b) getting a decent result at Eurovision. Personally I'd much rather Bobbi Arlo or Emmy got the ticket - obviously much more chance of one of those than the other.

Samantha Mumba's song is a huge disappointment.

In order of how much I'd like them to win

1. Growth
2. POWERPLAY
3. Run Into The Night
4. Laika Party
5. Fire
6. My Way

Can somebody let me know if any of them are any good?

You wouldn't look twice at that Samantha Mumba song if it wasn't by her would you? What a weird choice of song to "come back" with? It's so limp. She must be seeing something we're not seeing - or maybe there's an impressive stage show in there?

I guess Growth makes the most sense for a Eurovision stage, but it's hardly exciting given what we had last year. My personal favourite probably has to be the Laika one, but it's giving "rejected by MGP for a couple of years running, so I've gone out to other countries". It's so random. Does she have an Irish connection? In a competition where you're only looking for 6 entrants, did they really go off scouting in other countries?

For some reason, RTÉ has often selected a foreign act with zero relation to the country

From Slovenia in 2008

From Latvia in 2009

From Bosnia in 2010

From Sweden in 2015

And these are just the ones I remember :D

They didn’t, it was in the open selection. Apparently one of the songwriters is Irish (so I’d imagine they’ll be front and centre on the national final) but it’s a pretty loose connection.
