I don't see how that precludes having some empathy for his family, particularly if, as seems overwhelmingly likely, he is in fact dead.

if he's dead I empathise with them! but why should this case get media attention over the many hundreds of missing who don't and who weren't violent would-be murderers? why are we talking about it?

For the most part this seems to be getting a lot of traction because the internet is collectively making fun of his family for not grieving in the 'right' way.
 
If you have any self-respect, and if you do not want to feel like a mug when the truth comes out - and it will - do the right thing and reserve judgement.

Over the past 60+ years, I have witnessed a sad decline - older people who were brought up to trust others are being abused, while many younger people have had their brains sucked out by Social Media and MPA (Mobile Phone Addiction) - intelligence and analytical abilities are precious commodities, integrity and honesty are priceless.

I think it’s possible to feel sympathy for the people who love him, whilst at the same time noting that, if he is dead, then the average quality of humanity has gone up by a little bit.

The moment the death penalty was banned, set in motion the absolute, and as far as I can see the terminal, moral decline of this country. The sinful and wicked Harold Wilson opened up the gates of hell and we've been flooded with immoral concepts like video nasties and dirty magazines. Bring back corporal punishment, national service and violence in the home. But not on TV.
