Jess Glynne has stupid odds at the moment, considering how evil Amazon is and how LadBaby hasn’t even confirmed a single yet.
 
How can Amazon manipulate the charts? I must’ve missed that! If it’s the playlist thing surely every Christmas song in the charts benefits from that? Not that I want Glynne at #1.

Well yes, it's only manipulating the system as it works. It was first on the amazon music playlist and what played first if you asked Alexa to play Christmas music.

It just highlights the passivity of the chart, really.
 
I just put a bet on Jess Glynne.

If she doesn’t get it then I’m happy. If she does then at least I’ll make £85
 
Well I asked Alexa just now to play Christmas music and first up is Mimi. So far she’s safe!
 
2nd up after Mimi is.....Ariana Grande with Santa Tell Me. I’m now going to be repeating this experiment all week against my will.
 
Did Ellie last year not benefit from a bunch of songs being hit by that stupid chart rule and without that she was only number 6?
 
There was something about new tracks getting more heavily weighted I think, but a chart expert will be able to explain all.

Yes, that is right. The ratio is different. Mariah and the other oldies have to stream twice to once for a new song.
 
Lead extended in today's chart update apparently - she's 2.2k ahead.
 
Mariah will get it this week, although the shine of it finally happening is kind of diminished slightly by the fact it's followed by a Top 40 almost entirely made up of Christmas songs.

Jess Glynne may well get Christmas number one though as she has a CD single coming out on the 18th. Not that that will help much but that gives me the impression that that's the week they're planning to push it - not to mention deploying any shenanigans they can.

Yeah, she's a Christmas song. The Christmas chart is always full of Christmas songs, it's just happening earlier this year. I'd prefer it if it was Christmas week, but that's always going to be more susceptible to the LadBaby type push.

This getting to be #1 among all Christmas songs is all that I need.
 
Yes it’s more about getting the stat at this stage, doesn’t matter when.

Are lambs going to claim a 4th decade of #1s with this one? You’d have to claim Helping Haiti to do that though

Maybe once AIWFCIY is banned from the charts in a couple of years time for continually returning to number one, Oh Santa will have steadily lodged itself into the public consciousness and make its way onto some Spotify playlists to become its natural successor and take its place
 
Now it finally HAS hit #1 perhaps it will make the OCC play around with the rules again, because as things stand there's no reason it's not going to do it every year.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a campaign among George Michael fans this week to give Last Christmas its 'turn' now (and probably The Pogues as well).
