MOTHERFESTIVALEN 2023: Deltävling 4 (Malmö) - ft. Lorraine (sp?)

Does anyone here know the inner workings of the BBC by the way? Is it a company that knows their own limits and brings in outside expertise where needed?
It‘s a UK based team including Black Skull Creatives who do the big musical and TV productions but the Head of Contest is Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen who is Dutch. He’s the one who scowls and tells delegations what they can and can’t do with staging.

Loreen got a firm "NO :oi:" for using fake snow from the ceiling in 2012 as it would take an entire ad break to sweep it off stage before the next contestant. The ESC producers were planning to use snow effects on the leads instead. Team Bjorkmother managed to convince the producer with the words, "what, you're producing the greatest TV show on earth and you cannot manage what's done in a small country's national selection?".

The ESC producers were furious but by next morning Loreen had gotten the snow she wanted and this money shot:

Why not? There’s not an awful lot to Maria Sur’s staging.

For the first time in ages I don't think Sweden will just be able to replicate their Melfest staging at Eurovision, I can't see them allowing that enormous sandwich toaster.

Wonder if they've still got Sakis' stapler lying around?
In all seriousness this is a fair point. I remember hearing ages ago about contestants not being allowed to have things suspended from the ceiling as part of their acts, and I don’t think I have seen anything since then to the contrary, unless someone can think of an act that has done this?

It’s more than just a bit of snow.

And she broke a nail leaving blood all over the stage. Basic health and safety :eyes:

I don't know, perhaps it's a sign that Wiktoria and JHF are back when they were the two bringing down Statements in 2017. Mariette was also there.

This is a lot to process :MerylPerplexed:

Is it? It seems fine and the song sounds brilliant.
Schlagerprofilerna claims SVTs camera team ruins the great vision behind Mariette's performance with two many wideshots and off-putting crops.

'Now it all becomes a bit "We filmed a shitty YouTube video in the halfpipe with some auntie and then her brother came in and did an ollie!" when it should've been "we all stand together in tough times". So unnecessary.'

'I would've liked to see them saying do it again and do it justice. That there was still a Christer Björkman here who said that no one was allowed to go to bed until the camera work was completely redone and that the goal now was to build a world of her own for Mariette around her ramp and let her and the dancers stay inside it.'

I keep thinking about why the hysteria is this much this time around when it wasn’t in 2006 or 2008- both with previous winners, amazing songs that blew us away.

Is it cause this year we’ve been STARVED? Or just different times?
In what sense at ALL was there not this much hysteria in 2006 or 2008?! :D
