Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso / Please x3 / Short n Sweet (album)

Absolutely love this album so far. I enjoy her lyrics. Very PLAYFUL. And I love the strummy, guitary music.

It did feel a bit like the album wasn’t quite as anticipated as I’d have thought based on the two singles being behemoths, but I’ll chalk that up to me not really being the target audience. And clearly a video like that is showing they aren’t messing around.

Will be interesting to see the stats tomorrow.

The album is great but this is still the best moment for me

If you want to go and be stupid
Don't do it in front of me

If you don't want to cry to my music
Don't make me hate you PRO-LIFICALLLYYYYYYY

Pop joy

I don't know why it didn't hit initially but I definitely have the Taste now. Love the video.

VER-RY INSECURE! *cackles*

"Taste" is growing on me massively. The guitar is so infectious. Another hit for sure.

Just know that you'll taste me too...
*guitar lick*
LA LA LA LA LA LA!

Katy must be SEETHING. Sabrina does cheeky pop so much better!

wow the US domination. she's truly the BPG of the year.

Taste video is great. it's so funny how the popstar she most resembles is early Katy Perry.

Great start overall. Wonder if Espresso has a shot to re-peak in the US?
The early projections have it at #2, which would be a new peak. #6 for "Taste". She's doing very well on Apple Music (US) too, which is very rare for a female pop act.

Those streaming numbers are huge for her. Emails I Can't Send debuted with 3.3m. This did almost 60m.

"Sharpest Tool" is another grower. It's so pretty.

We never talk about it....

This has a silly amount of vinyl pressings...blue, different blue, pink, picture disc, different picture disc, clear and different slightly greenish clear. That's what is/was available in the UK. 3 different covers and one of them has a bonus track. I do wonder how this era of the vinyl record will be seen in 30 years or so.

Anyway, this is all jolly good I think. She is definitely the most commercial and US-radio friendly of 2024's pop saviours but that's not a bad thing of itself when you've got the nerve to put some stripped down acoustic songs and a straight up country number on your 'breakthrough' album. I didn't expect to hear a banjo on side 2 from the two singles. I like a surprise, me.

Where can we hear the bonus track? I don’t see it on streaming or YouTube

This is good. And a grower I think. It's Deeper Well's more fun-loving sister. Bed Chem, Taste are a little bit bopsy. I think the others will reveal themselves with time.

At the moment, it's just on the "moonlight" vinyl. Which is actually just clear. I assume it'll be added to the album on streaming if it needs a boost at some stage.

I suspect the fourth single in 3 ish months will be one of several new songs on a “deluxe”. Not a terrible move if so since most post album release singles fail.

I think she can see what else takes off alongside Taste and probably not waste a new single that soon. but yeah a good strategy in the streaming era. deluxe editions that come out the same week aren't happening as much this year.

It's a cute and flirty record. Sonically, it sounds quite Ariana Grande, but I'm not complaining.

Bed Chem is my favorite so far.

amazing numbers expected for the US. The last album opened with 18k although it eventually made its way to Gold/500k.

There is not one skip on the album for me. This whole campaign is such a masterstroke. I’m not sure any of it was even recorded when they announced “Espresso” initially as a one off.

What was the thing that made her actually break out? Was it opening for the Eras Tour, or was it literally just Espresso getting proper label backing?

i think it's a combination of the Eras Tour, her Nonsense outros going viral on TikTok, and then coming back with FUN pop perfection after Taylor, Ariana, and Billie made us all depressed throughout the first 2 quarters of the year.

upon first listen i properly love Taste, Sharpest Tool, Dumb & Poetic, Bed Chem, Juno, and Don't Smile.

“Nonsense” made the top ten at pop radio last year despite its low peak on the Hot 100. “Feather” also became a major sleeper hit and hit #1 at pop radio. Those laid the foundation for “Espresso” I think

Yeah they definitely helped starting to build her. I still remember putting Espresso on from New Music Friday and doing a double take as ‘fuck me, that’s good’ which I think a lot of people did. Complete master stroke. But they had the video ready and it’s quite knowing so they clearly knew they were on to something.

That Taste video is absolutely sensational. Feels like the first video in ages that I've not got bored of part way through.

I love how campy her look is for this era - and maybe before, but I'd literally NEVER HEARD OF HER until Espresso. The album was strong on first listen, too.

And whatever happens next, I hope an additional by-product of her work will be more people knowing it's 'espresso' and not fucking 'eXpresso'. EDIT: I've just seen that our @lolly has already esxpressed this wish. I STAND WITH YOU, COMRADE

I think I knew exactly squat about her until Espresso and any fragment I would have picked up would have been on here. Sometimes, something just connects.
