Turkey OUT! (1 Viewer)

Is it for real? :o To be fair it is a ridiculous rule.

Apparently they're saying its because of the unfair Big 5 rule. Seems strange when excluding the 2011 final when they didn't qualify, they managed to outscore Spain, UK & France in every contest final since 2003 and outscore Germany in every contest final but the 2010 final.

I never thought I'd say this but good for Turkey on calling Christer on his Eurovision megalomania. Hopefully he backs down and they come back.

EDIT: Oh, the big 5? Why is that an issue NOW? It's been the case for years!

EXACTLY. It's all a bit strange.

I wonder if they'll reduce the amount of rehearsal days in Malmö! I've already booked my hotel and accommodation to arrive on Sat 4th. I may have a few free days at the beginning now!

Apparently the running order isn't even an issue for Turkey. Their big issue is that it's 50/50 jury/televote rather than pure televote :|

http://escwebs.net/2012/12/14/turkey-withdraws-from-eurovision-2013/

'In August, İbrahim Şahin from TRT claimed that they are fed up with the new rules of the contest and even told that that winner is actually chosen months before May and others have no chances.' :manson:

That is more understandable since most of the time they do very poorly with juries. I'd rather keep the juries and lose Turkey though.

They can FUCK RIGHT OFF with that shit.

They still came 3rd in 2009, 2nd in 2010 and 7th in 2012, with COMPLETELY undeserving material.

BYE TURKEY.

It's understandable that they wouldn't like it given it's affected them moreso than others, but it's a total tantrum that they're pulling out over it. Surely they should be able to see the objective considerations for having it mixed rather than pure televoting?

That said, it's not QUITE as bad as France claiming support for the juries the year of Patricia Kaas and then whinging about them the year of Allez Ola Olé :D

Turkey exiting doesn't upset me terribly in and of itself - their last decent entry for me was the much maligned Dum Tek Tek. (Manga was good for what it was, but not my cup of tea).

But the fact that it increases the probability of another piss-weak Azerbaijani winner due to the Turkish vote transfer WORRIES ME.

OH THE DRAMA

Turkey can fuck RIGHT off if that's why they're out. I'm sad to see Bosnia go, their entries are a mixed back but they have a tendency to strike gold every few years. Also less chance of a Balkan Ballad :(. I've recently decided Serbia are quite BRILLIANT so I'm holding out for their participation.

LOL at Kevin thinking the Netherlands would be sure to qualify if 26/36 went through :D

Does it though? It's not as if the Turkish vote has managed to win it for Turkey lately...

I genuinely believe Running Scared won because of Turkey failing to qualify.

The Turkish vote on its own isn't enough to secure a victory, but combined with the sizeable-in-itself Azeri diaspora...

I'm certain Turkey failing to qualify gave Azerbaijan a major boost. At least 10 points and probably more.

To be fair to poor HATED Azerbaijan, they are consistently quite good with their entries. Much better than Turkey at least. Who knows, they could end up winning with a great song :o

Well yeah, but that's a Turkish vote that has had to go alongside an Azeri vote. The both combining could be quite powerful.

I still don't think it happened all that much though. Running Scared didn't even get any points from Germany.

How come?

Should free up a few slots for qualification anyway, Turkey and B&H are dead certs most of the time

I agree. Turkey have been pretty much SHITE since 2006 (I FUCKING LOVE SIBEL) and they take a LOT of "friendly votes" most years, from what I can see...

I won't miss Turkey musically, but I'm STILL worried it'll just be a case of all their votes being transferred to Azerbaijan.

We shall see...

Bosnia are a shame though. Even when they've been bad they've been interesting. (OK except this year).

Bosnia used to be good, but they've just been getting progressively worse over the last few years. I won't miss them at all, sadly, and they used to be a favourite.

Turkey are just a hateful Eurovision nation... probably my very least favourite. Not ONE entry I've ever genuinely liked. Sibel was the closest, but only for the LOLZ.

I love Sertab as well but SIBEL is Turkey's CROWNING GLORY

Fucking TREMENDOUS on ALL LEVELS :disco:

Everyway That I Can is MAGNIFICENT, ropey live vox be damned.

I never got Superstar personally, but I can see that it appeals to people. I think Dum Tek Tek is fine for WHAT IT IS and Rimi Rimi Ley is nice in a tuneless ethno-wailing sort of way.

The rest though, NO THANKS.

I quite liked Manga and Deli for Eurovision rock, certainly don't mind there being a bit of variety if it sounds alright. That shit they entered a few years ago got the result it deserved though.

There are many Turkish entries I liked/loved: 03, 04, 06, 07, 09, 10, 12. But as I said I'd rather see them go instead of the juries.

I'm disappointed that two out of the four predominantly Muslim countries have pulled out.

Bosnia's entries weren't always good, but they usually were interesting. I loved their entry by Regina.

But as I said I'd rather see them go instead of the juries.

Oh that's quite another question! I'm never happy to see a country pull out, personally. But EBU shouldn't (and happily don't) change the rules just to suit a country.

*ahem* Apart from the big 5 *ahem*

I think it's very pretty but I can see why people weren't fond. It was a bit of a snooze moment in the final.

I totally see why people thought that. Indeed I thought it until a month or so after! They didn't do themselves any favours with the dark staging (see also Croatia).

I guess the Balkans are more used to this style than we are and it clicked more with them

I like all three, but I was surprised that was the one that qualified out of the Slovenia/Croatia/Bosnia semi-2 Former Yugoslav ethnoballad clusterfuck this year. Verjamen and Nebo were both much more dynamic.

Verjamen was gorgeous. Slovenia are right to withdraw - they've constantly been left in the semis with far superior entries to their neighbours.

My problem with Slovenia is that the NF PERF was so good, and it just wasn't as good as that. Not that many people would have seen that but still!

Plus her dress was well grotty

See this is what I find so frustrating. Yes it's disappointing when that happens, but quitting wont help!!

Is Diddy's comment above a typo? It's Slovakia that are out rather than Slovenia, isn't it?

Who, aside from Horehronie, are entirely useless so not much of a loss.

It is a shame for Slovenia, they never seem to get the breaks and they try ever so hard.

I thought they didn't in the end.

Slovenia didn't withdraw in the end, Slovakia did.

Agree with RB's sentiments, Slovenia is consistently strong but just don't get anywhere. 'Verjamem' was probably my favourite entry this year and 'No One' (which at least made the final) was one of the best of 2011. It must be galling to see some of the dross that sails though year on year. In the same vein, I won't miss Turkey whatsoever, it is laughable that they have complained about the voting structure.
