No Clue But I Ranked It

I’d put good money on the higher-ups at the BBC thinking this is a Wet Leg/Last Dinner Party-style moment. I can see the ‘raucous’ Victorian-themed dinner party staging attempt in my head already.

Instead, it feels like the writer’s of SIX have attempted the dreaded sequel and arrived at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies.

I think they were too busy doing the ‘Why am I so single..’ show

CLOSING EARLY

And I'm sure those songs were great too, but we'll never know, because nobody went to find out :(

The official BBC review describes it as 'A dizzying array of key changes'

Now, I've been wrong before about this, but... there aren't any key changes, are there?

I think there may be one key change, but it's not a capital K capital C key change - just a shift into a different key between one part and another. They obviously just mean 'tempo/vibe shift' though.

I guess, if we were feeling deluded, it doesn’t matter if 80% of the public hate it as long as the other 20% pick up the phone.

Well yes - too many of our entries have inspired complete and utter indifference from the public which is why we score nothing.

I mean, it’s not BORING at least like James Newman, but not really a song I can imagine anyone CHOOSING to listen to.

There are no key changes of the capital or lower case varieties.

Your ambivalent nonchalant mainstream jury for the disinterested is declaring this a bop.

If they nail the vocals and go for some wild staging I can see that really standing out on the night.
No clue but he likes it

Not me and @funky having the same musical opinion! What next, usurping @VoR as President of the Louise Mailing List?!

Apparently this is one of the songs that was submitted but rejected.

Probably a bit too radio smooth and stylistically close to Olly, but not a bad song at all.

He was one of my doomed asfm entries so probably best avoided.

If there’s one thing I hate more than anything in music is unnecessary tempo changes… and there are about 20 in this. Fuck me.

It just can’t decide what it wants to do at all. I gave it a generous 5 because their vocals sound good but on 3rd listen I think I really really dislike it…

#170 on Spotify.

I don’t know why but that seems a rather good result to me? Especially for a Friday release alongside all the new music entries.

I don't hate this as much as I did. It's gone from a 1 to a 4 in the last 24 hours. That usually happens with me though and my first reaction is usually the correct one.

Olly debuted at #76. Mae Muller at #56.

Obviously their being a low profile act and this not being a hosting year was always going to put them at a disadvantage there.

I like it, and think they'll be better live. 😊
Not sure if it's been mentioned here already, but they were on The Voice in 2019; they can do harmonies well:

and Jennifer Hudson liked it that much she threw her shoe at them  (and gifted one back a few years later) 👢✨

I feel like we may have gone with Mae and Olly who struggled to deliver with their vox an act that can absolutely slay with the vox on the night. Which is obviously the main thing they have chosen here and for that reason.

I am going to have a few more listens to the song and actually THEM and see, I don't think its fair to brush them off like I did yesterday

I think it’s split, rather than total hate, which is presumably better than indifference.
The reactions I’ve read/heard from people have been generally positive, certainly not any worse than literally every other song in the contest. And this is after trawling absolute cesspits like YouTube comments sections. I do think it will do a lot better with the juries than with the public, but I really don’t know which way this contest is going - I feel like the fandom kind of hates everything this year.

Also my Mum loves it so that’s the hinged vote stitched up.

Can we add ‘critically acclaimed’ to the title to acknowledge the rave reviews this modern classic has received? I would also accept ‘bigger than Christ’ and ‘lol Mans we’ll send you a postcard’

Don't you think, in such difficult times, with World War III coming soon, many countries are sending shit because the last thing they want is to win and organise Eurovision? I think that's the case of UK.
