Taylor Swift

I have become worryingly obsessed with the Jason Nevins remix of Love Story over the last few days. Not entirely sure why, I'm not convinced it is a very good remix and her voice remains unappealing.

Did anyone see her on Jools Holland? It was very strange, like she had fallen into the wrong programme. Her live vocal was horrendous and she was so blank as a live performer it was quite ridiclous. Holland spoke to her for a bit and asked her what she spends her time in the UK doing and she came out with the Topshop chestnut, it all just felt very out of place.

I am presuming she has some sort of mental disability, she has videos of herself posing with multiply bottles of painkillers and with slurred speech. And this video of her friend singing along to Daniel Bedingfield that she uploaded seems to confirm my fears. :(

Hey I'm Nichole and YES I am 18 everyone keeps asking me if I am and its true I am 18. Thanks to all the nice people out there who leave positive comments, complements and that aren't rude. I appreciate those people. I wish that everyone could be nice it would make this world a better place. So I'm 18. My favorite animal is a lobster. I like hanging out having fun going to concerts listening to music and singing. I sing for a hobby NOT a career. I hope you enjoy my channel. So, yeah. That's me.

This is the video I was talking about earlier

So it looks like they're having another shot at the UK with "You Belong With Me" when it's released proper on September 14th. I certainly think this is a better song than "Love Story" and it's been absolutely huge in the States so far (#2 on the Hot 100, her biggest hit in the US, as well as another #1 on the Country chart).

At the moment it's at #46 on UK iTunes, but is it getting a big push at all over there? It's definitely her most 'pop' single to date, it's hardly country to start with.

And of course the high school video is one of the finest of the year, I actually sat through the whole thing quite GRIPPED while flipping through VH1 this morning.

This has been on the radio loads, it should certainly buoy the album if nothing else. I quite like it, but her stuff is so interchangeable. They all seem to be built around the same template and delivered in exactly the same way.

That video is fucking dreadful. My friends and I caught it on TV the other day and laughed through the entire thing.

UK friends: please support Taylor and buy the "You Belong With Me" single this week. It's currently at #42 on UK iTunes.

Due to the VMAs, the song has rebounded to #6 on US iTunes and it's still getting loads and loads of airplay.

Jools Holland had her on?

I remember watching it and thinking how she was such an odd choice for the show's line-up. At the time I thought she was one of those Disney brats who had branched into music.

She gets a lot of flack for her vocals but she has a perfectly fine pop voice and at least she puts the effort in singing live in her performances and writes all her songs.

I thought she did very well in the VMA performance. Her breathing was a little off but she was constantly moving and she kept in time despite moving between 3 locations.

It was pre-recorded...

The thing is, I don't DISLIKE her, but stuff like "oh she writes her own songs" and "she has an ok voice, she can keep in time"...I mean, maybe we've just been spoiled by the late 90s/early 00s pop puppets, but all of these are BASIC things that a singer/artist should be able to do.

I can see WHY people get annoyed, because ultimately she is absolutely average in every department but praised for qualities which are taken for granted in other artists.

Yes, but it's thoughts like that, that it's "that easy", that makes all those awful AWFUL deluded people go on X Factor and the like thinking they're good.

It's not.

Despite the Kanye thing she's still a BLAND BITCH.

If you want CUNTRY then go for Carrie Underwood.

I'm the last person to want all pop singers to sound like Christina Aguilera, but Taylor Swift really has the most UNAPPEALING voice I've heard in a long time. It's got a really unpleasant quality to it. So nasal and reedy.

She writes good pop songs and is generally very likable, not saying she's an outstanding pop star, cause she isn't, but I don't know why all this 'she has a crap voice' thing is immediately brought on her when there's a number of other current (and past) pop stars that are barely ever criticized for their sub-par voice (Katy Perry springs to mind, not that I dislike her at all).

I guess my point is, she's NINETEEN and is just releasing harmless pop songs and seems to genuinely have a PASSION and a TALENT for it, so I say good on her, I don't see any reason why anyone should complain, especially when there's an abundance of the Disney breed who are just made into 'singers' purely for the purpose of their brand or $$$$$$$$.

It's odd cause she sang really fine during the VMA's in spite of being her debut and having to put up with a Kanye brand outburst

I didn't like Love Story and I don't know any of her other songs, but I have to admit that this Kanye West thing made me curious about other songs.

Not enough to actually look for them though.

Her voice isn't bland at ALL and it's ludicrous that VoR, of all people, is the one leveling that criticism at her. Don't you like Emma Bunton?

She's got an excellent country-lite voice which, coupled with the fact she's released several great pop/country songs, is why she's broken sales records over the last 2 years in America.

I just think country music really isn't something a lot of Europeans get. I'm not saying she's Dolly Parton or anything, but she's massively popular because she's making country music accessible to pop fans.

It's a no brainer.

The word bland gets bandied around on here with, well GAY ABANDON. Often where its use is entirely inappropriate.

I'm only really familiar with Love Story, but to me she hasn't got a proper country voice at all, but maybe my view of country is stuck in a pre-Shania/Faith twangy past.

Her voice isn't awful, but live it isn't any great shakes either. On that Jools performance it could almost be Avril Lavigne doing a ballad.

I do have a soft spot for Love Story though.

Up to #21 on UK iTunes, I hope it can end up making the top 20

Here's a cute UK interview

And the album is officially certified 4x Platinum in the US, that's pretty fucking amazing in this climate, and they're still mining the album with the re-release out Oct 27.
