The politician I quoted above is far from apolitical in fairness. I think the fact that it’s become a right wing cause celebre is likely the bigger driver of a potential televote takeover.I suspect so - to some extent this is the point I have tried to make this week. Most people are going to be both apolitical (or at the very least split on the issue) and casual viewers of Eurovision. Audible booing of a young woman is not going to look good to many televoters.
I didn’t mean her per se, she’s a politician, but I have always felt (largely through my own experience in politics) that most people are very oblivious of the world around them. The politician I quoted above is far from apolitical in fairness. I doubt many viewers will come in with no opinion on the Israel-Gaza conflict at this stage. I’m not sure most casuals will make it the deciding factor on their votes, but if a bunch of influencers and journalists are pushing for a pro-Israel protest vote, it won’t take much for them to really rack up the points… likely from a lot of people who won’t even be watching the show.
He's lost the room
It's so depressing that people will think this way. Her country she has chosen to represent is being booed. "you shouldn't boo a young woman" is just so CYNICAL.Audible booing of a young woman is not going to look good to many televoters.

Take your point as always, but I can totally see it playing out - that and singing a LOVELY BALLAD.It's so depressing that people will think this way. Her country she has chosen to represent is being booed. "you shouldn't boo a young woman" is just so CYNICAL.
YOU SHOULDN'T BOO A MOUNTAINWhen it happened to Russia - multiple times - their sympathy bounce wasn’t that high. But Israel feels a lot more divisive than the global view on Russia even in 2014/15.
I do think Eurovision will survive this, but if Israel win then 2025 will be a very existentially challenging year. Israel would surely insist on hosting, multiple delegations would likely drop out (Iceland and Ireland at the very least) and if you think there’s been a shadow over it this year…
Surely the boycotts will render it void? And you’re not going to get the physical audience.
How much travel even is there to Israel right now? I’m completely prohibited from going to TLV for work.Surely the boycotts will render it void? And you’re not going to get the physical audience. From actual fans, anyway.
Truly the MONKEYS PAW EurovisionOmg maybe we WILL end up with a Eurovision full of women of a certain age that we long for.
You will get a huge Israeli audience. They’ll fill the entire hall and make it a massive pro- Israel rally.
The Olympics got through similar boycotts.Oh absolutely. But if like 14 countries drop out in protest, it’s surely not going to be perceived even as a ‘real Eurovision’
This might be the year I can finally get a song into Eurovision![]()
The Olympics also have a lot more participants. A boycott of 14 countries is around a fifth of Eurovision participantsThe Olympics got through similar boycotts.

I think it would be particularly a disaster for any country that has been on the edge of pulling out, as they'll have an additional push factor.
Wow that'll do it.Protesters has broken into the Swedish speaking Finnish broadcaster YLE, demanding Finland to boycott Eurovision.
