ABBA Voyage: The Concert Residency – CONTAINS MAJOR SET LIST SPOILERS (1 Viewer)

Saw the setlist on twitter. are we happy with it? I am not a super fan so couldn't see if there were any huge omissions but looked good to me.

I am toying with tickets for this.

How did Mr L cope? :o
I'm not sure he did :D

Or at least he's still in that dazed and slightly confused state like he was after he met Frida.

He's actually slightly more critical of the show than I am though!

SNIPPETS, CREDITS AND DETAILS PLEASE!
I don't really feel as if I have much to add to the reviews out there. It's properly stunning. Unless you have an issue with the concept, I fail to see how you won't love it. And YOU will love it, no question.

I'm not entirely without reservations
like for the two songs which have an animated film, and I'd have liked Agnetha and Frida dancing along when the band got their number
, but the rest of it is such a visual spectacle that it's forgotten. If anything, my criticism is that the avatars are almost too perfect in places.

I did take quite a few photos which I'll stick under a spoiler here as well, although I'm not sure how good they will look on a larger screen.

There are three UK #1s missing - Take a Chance On Me, Super Trouper and The Name Of The Game

The Visitors makes a great opener, and the music in the arena prior to the start of the show leads nicely into it. The biggest surprise for me was the inclusion of Hole In Your Soul, but that obviously fits with Benny's interview comment regarding setting a mood - because thinking about it there are few other songs in their catalogue which have the same type of rock n'roll punch and pace.

I groaned slightly at the inclusion of TYFTM when I saw the setlist, but after the show it would be a bit churlish to gripe. The presentation is great, and it was a huge singalong moment.

Also pleased to report that Don't Shut Me Down and I Still Have Faith In You stand shoulder to shoulder with the old songs marvellously.

The Sunday Times reporting today that it cost £140m and that it will need to perform to near capacity audiences every night to break even.

As I posted previously, Benny reported just before the premiere that they had sold 380k tickets. I've seen reports of a million now, but no source. Certainly there is still decent availability from August, at least in the standing area.

I wonder how long for though, I can imagine this can just run and run

I like the idea of DANCE FLOOR tickets on a Saturday matinee for a good ol' ABBA BOOZE UP with my friend and yes we nearly got kicked out of Mamma Mia at the cinema

:disco:

I did wonder how it would be sustainable. Mamma Mia kinda has its own life as an ABBA product. Would everyone who sees Mamma Mia want to go and watch this? I'm not sure.

I presume they have a contingency plan. The venue could easily be used for other artists' avatar events in the long run.

OK gang I've got my January DANCE FLOOR tickets
Boozy wintery Saturday with ABBA here we come

I was tempted with the Departure Lounge tix but they were far too pricey and I reckon my friend and I can just smuggle in alcohol like we did that time at the Angel Cinema when we watched Mamma Mia and nearly got thrown out

I'm guessing they mean it needs to sell like that until the end of the current booking period, which is May next year.

I'm not sure how enduring it will prove to be, and I don't think the fact that it is so distant from the West End will help, in terms of a lot of theatre tickets are sold very close to the the show to tourists who are there in the middle of everything - will they make the journey out to the Arena? It's well connected but still over half an hour out from central London. And the area around it is really quite BLEAK, I felt - nothing like having a stroll around the West End or Covent Garden etc.

With their back catalogue, proven ability to sell Gold, Theatre tickets and box office success, and now the good to great reviews for this, there surely has to be the question that if Abba can't make the concept work, who can?

Fuck the departure lounge - you get a separate entrance, some prosecco and a few toppy carrots as far as I can see. I had a quick look from outside and it's not particularly plush - certainly more Pumpkin that Park Lane.

We ate at Haugen Stratford before the show which was really nice and also has a rooftop bar and is only a ten minute walk away from the arena. Rather than getting to the arena a couple of hours early to get your nearly £200 each worth of value in the departure lounge, I'd go to Haugen or similar for food and drinks instead. We had their set weekend menu plus a few drinks and coffee for just over £100 for both of us.

can someone explain what exactly is the Departure lounge ?

It's £195 (on top of whatever ticket you're buying) for an evening show or £155 for the matinee.

The programme included is £15 otherwise, and the water bottle £4.50.

Mind you, that £140m they need to raise to break even won't take long if your post-concert drink and dessert treats is little more than a spotty youth flinging a carton of Um Bongo and a packet of Hula Hoops in your general direction.
