Ariana Grande - Positions + marriage (and 1st divorce)

I guess this could be her ‘My December’ - followed by a rapid escorting back to the studio by the label.

The semi-hook on ‘Positions’ is nice enough but she is wasting a lot of opportunity to innovate (or even just chasing the bop trend).

Popjustice seem to be living for it but I can't at all these hyperboles being thrown around like its some sort of masterpiece when in my head it probably sounds like a thank u next sequel full of mumblecore, finger snaps and cute under 3 minutes bops.

It's really quite jarring when THAT place shows all this praise for a bunch of nothing and the result is so underwhelming I want to cry.

YES PLEASE!

Only Ariana could release the same album three times and get away with it

Has he seen this thread?

His twitter is great by the way

I’ve followed him, let’s swoon him

Motive's alright. Some hint of a hook rather than the interminable trap obsession that ruins 34+35.

Just Like Magic is a bit trap again but so SUGARY. Fantastic, by comparison with everything else so far, but really still only at the base rate of what I'd have hoped for.

Off the Table (ft. The Weeknd) has nothing on the majesty of LUH ME LUH ME LUH ME HARDER (which I've now had to go listen to as a palate cleanser to remind me what an ACTUAL FUCKING BANGER sounds like)

Six Thirty is cutesy enough. It's a nice album track, and for once the trap is actually turned towards a POINT rather than being an interminable water torture technique that goes nowhere musically. I'm still waiting for anything half as good as Q3 2019 smash DON'T CALL ME ANGEL

05 Shut Up - an embarrassing attempt at trying to serve 'attitude'. What an annoying song.
05 34+35 - Forgettable. Did she just say SIDE DICK?
08 Motive - Very sexy. There's something kinda almost En Vogue about this track. Obviously single material.
07 Just Like Magic - I do love a good narcissistic track. "Just like magic, I'm ATTRACTIVE" :D the autotune in this song is gross though.
08 Off The Table - Now THIS is what I need from this bitch. Sensual vocals, great beat.
07 Six thirty
05 Safety Net
- The bareback anthem basic twinks were all waiting for!
08 My Hair - Loving this! VERY Jill Scott :disco: The whistles and neo soul production are so good!
05 Nasty - Aaand we're back to basic nondescript crap.
06 West Side
07 Love Language
- Catchy chorus. Love the vocals on this.
08 Positions - Still enjoying this.
05 Obvious
07 POV
- I REALLY want more of this kinda thing from her.

Now My Hair is a GROOVE :o She's giving me classic R&B, perhaps even....dare I say it.....Christina Aguilera - Back To Basics :disco:

Still very much in the realms of stuff I'd expect more from an album track than a single but this is more LIKE IT

Nasty kicking off with a Mariah "YES I CAN STILL DO WHISTLE NOTES AND YOU CAN'T" kiss off, but continuing with not much else. Like being submerged in a sensory deprivation water tank. It's fine. Where are the fucking HITS

She clearly creative vision. She's really bad at creating a compete work. It's always just a random bunch of NICE sounding songs that could be from any given album.

She's lucky she has a pretty voice cuz otherwise most of this album would be a 0-4/10

I was too bored to review West Side. Love Language is very decadent production-wise and a treat to listen to, but again, still only in the ballpark of a nice album track. I can already tell the gays are going to pretend to love this album much more than they actually do.

Positions is pretty much the only thing on this I could happily listen to on repeat.

I didn't care about Obvious. POV is a real SANG IT moment when she goes for it though.

All in all - what a load of SHIT!

what a mess. if it wasn't for nasty (LIKE THIS PUSSY'S DESIGNED FOR YOU :disco:) this would have fallen into the 69 category...

It’s very autumnal nights, roaring fire, rain on the window, blanket and slippers.

I’m sure that’s what she was going for

I listened to Motive and it was alright. It would be a cute "OK we needed a breather from the bangers so this serves a purpose" moment on another album. But if this is a highlight I'm scared to dip into the rest.

Oh shut up is great!

Maybe i’m going to like this one, will feed back

34+35 also a winner for me. These layered vocals and Broadway-reminiscent strings, here for it

motive is a bop. We’re THREE FOR THREE

just like magic is a bit of an atmospheric reverie. Mariah will like that one
