Will it even happen

The ebu has been getting increasingly crazy over the years. It's just full blown madness now. Yesterday they snatched a non binary flag from someone and an eu flag from someone else cause they were political.
Nemo had to sneak theirs on for the flag parade because they were told it wasn't allowed

My Mum has confirmed that her favourites from the show were Cyprus and Croatia. She does admit to having fallen asleep for some of the first half, before being woken up by Bambie, which must have been a bit of a shock.

The rules are flags of competing nations and rainbow flags only. I guess after incidents with Hatari and Iveta they are cracking down heavily.

Systur had trans flags, was that technically not allowed? I'd argue if rainbow flags are allowed that should include ALL the spectrum

I agree. The trans flag is pretty well known though, maybe the issue is that someone mistook the non-binary flag for something else. It’s quite a new flag.

Bambie had the trans flag too, as did Hera I think? I’m guessing they just didn’t recognise the non-binary flag

It’d probably be quicker to just train them on the few flags they have an issue with - I’m imagining they don’t really care about non-binary or some Swiss canton or Tuvalu. Although I disagree with the rule altogether - I mean, don’t bring in an ISIS flag or similar but other than that :D

Was there anything worth reporting from the press conference or was it just the winner?

I guess it’s easier to make a blanket ban rather than a list of banned flags. Palestine for example would only upset Israel and I can’t imagine many others apart from Serbia being bothered about Kosovo. Although I’ve just read about 10 of the current Eurovision countries don’t recognise Kosovo, so that will be interesting if they end up taking part within the next few years.

Surely a generalised position that any political statements by contestants are the responsibility of the respective broadcasters/delegations and in no way reflect the views of the EBU would be more practical than this futile effort at clamping down.

They do make some good points about the effect of sexualised performances at Eurovision on children. I’ve been watching since the 1990 contest, when I was seven years old, and the raw animal sexuality of Eurocat has warped my understanding of adult relationships.

There is a little bit of a fuss against Graham Norton who apparently misgendered both Bambie and Nemo multiple times throughout the show. I’m sure it was just a mistake but for it to happen numerous times is both sloppy and disrespectful.

I noticed during Bambie Thug he kept switching between she and they. It definitely wasn't mean spirited, just DODDERY OLD MAN

And on the BBC news immediately afterwards.

Confirmed the OMG was Ireland and the FFS was Armenia.

I see Eurovision have uploaded all of the interval songs to Youtube but for some reason have left out "You're Good To Go" (which was way better than I'd expected) - are they just terrified of the Youtube comments they'd get?

Yes the line about respecting the rules during the broadcasts seems to be aimed more at Portugal, Ireland etc. for speaking out. And no recognition of why they did.

Clearly they've learned nothing and will double down on the importance of being apolitical.

The mere fact that they get to dictate what someone can or not say/show/wear etc is in itself political.
They'd only be "apolitical" if the contest was done behind closed doors, without an audience, on the radio and defining a theme from which no one could deviate.
Sort of like an ASFM.
