Eurovision 2024: Semi-Final 2 (8PM BST) (1 Viewer)

Latvia just said ‘every country deserves to be free’ in the press conference, almost forgiven!

Clutching at straws but Italy (which is the only country that releases the exact percentages) has a history of releasing different votes to what the EBU presents as the Italian vote: https://escbubble.com/2019/06/ebu-the-televoting-results-provided-by-rai-are-inaccurate/

My suspicion is that the central voting team remove any suspicious votes and then that set is used for Eurovision’s results - perhaps RAI provide the results before they’re filtered.

This is what i’ve said for the whole length of time i’ve been a fan - as long as a country is in it, they could win it. It is then down to the EBU to deal with the shitshow of the contest being in the likes of Israel, or previously Russia. It’s not worth the fucking risk.
I’m a bit surprised to read the shock here at Israel potentially winning - of COURSE that was always going to happen? Any vote ‘against’ Israel winning is dispersed amongst 25 other songs. It won’t need an especially high jury score either - and that is guaranteed to be mixed at worst.

Exactly. I completely agree. It wouldn’t.

And that’s before you even get into the politics of Israel wanting to host and the EBU saying no. What do Israel’s allies like UK and Germany do then? Pull out with them?

The whole thing will descend into chaos.

“You’re going to REAP! REAP! REAP! Just what you sooooooooow…”

(not you Kratz but… you get my meaning!)

Because the song is shit, and especially recently, Israel has no friends and blanket bad media coverage. I fully expected a middling televote and a tiny jury vote come the final.

Let's just hope we're extrapolating nonsense from a single data point.

Or, let's hope that Martin Osterdahl finds a technical rule break and disqualifies them before Saturday. Their commentators were being disgraceful with Ireland, if twitter is to be believed.

Joost was asked:

Do you think your song can unite us with music?

Joost: … well… that’s a question for the EBU

Is it bad that I also sort of hope they come close? I want the EBU to learn something from this shitshow.

Yeah, there's no way we're going to Israel next year.

I'm not even saying that to be antagonistic. - it just clearly AIN'T happening for very obvious reasons.

Watched with my mum earlier and she said Israel was the best performance of both nights.

Then Charlotte Perrelli turned up and she changed her mind.

Czechia was my favourite on the night, would have liked it and Denmark to have gone through.

I don’t think Israel should be there but the song and performance does stand out from the others and was better than most.

And I think I agree- there were boos, but a LOT of cheering. I think the cheers drowned out the boos- mainly because a LOT of people stayed quiet.

The more I think about it, fuck the fucking useless Italian broadcaster for causing this mess. If they hadn't leaked those results, the EBU presumbly would have buried Israel in the running order anyway and no doubt there'd be speculation, but nowhere near this level of discourse which is obviously going to further motivate the Israeli vote.

Even when they're not hosting they manage to fuck things up :D

As for the booing vs cheering, we do have to be realistic about this. A lot of people are clearly experiencing their Brexit vote/US 2016 election night moment and getting a sharp lesson that their online/social bubble is NOT the world. If a forum as left-leaning as Moopy is quite sharply divided on the situation in Isreal/Gaza, then of course the wider public is too.

I agree that a lot of people just stayed silent - I was one of them, I sat on my hands so my silly little wristband wouldn't contribute to the light show and neither cheered & clapped nor booed. But to pretend there wasn't a large amount of vocal support for Israel in the room is just delusional.
