Eurovision 2025: Basel (17 May) (1 Viewer)

Slovakia is really going down the Orban route. It's depressing as fuck.

They’d presumably put up more of a fight, but Le Pen’s party has vowed to similarly privatise the French national broadcaster should they win… :zombie:

That skirt really will never find grace as an eternal MOMENT OF FASHION SHAME for a Eurogong winner!

I don't know much about Basel. Is there much there?

Either way this is probably positive from a costing perspective. Geneva itself may well be eye watering but both cities are close enough to the French border to make commuting feasible. (Plus the German border if it’s Basel).

The hotel I had reserved in Zurich for just under £650 for the week was clearly too good to be true

I'll start having a look at Geneva options. After staying in Copenhagen this year, I'm not exactly keen on the idea of a second year of not stopping in the host country.

I've been to Basel and it was pleasant enough. Feels quite international due to its location and proximity to three borders so that's probably their angle.

Of the two I expect Geneva would and should win it, but we all thought that about Glasgow didn't we?

I would agree that Basel is nice but not overly exciting - definitely a pleasant place to stay for the ESC week though (with the caveats re: price).

It feels very obvious that it should be Basel given the advantage with the arena and also the fact that German-speaking Switzerland have never hosted despite being the majority.

In other news, the Dutch broadcaster is still saying that their chances of taking part in 2025 are "small" :ToneNervous: (also, I hadn't heard about Anouk's transphobic stuff :( )

Is there another broadcaster that could pick it up?

I reckon they're just playing hardball to get something in the way of an apology/action from the EBU on the whole Joost mess. Would be a true shocker to see the Netherlands withdrawing, even if just for a year.

If they do stay out, or otherwise reject Anouk, maybe Luxembourg will have her. :basil:

Netherlands need to get over it.

Why would they get an apology? Has the Malmo police even concluded its investigation.

I'm not sure, but the Dutch delegation still clearly feel like there's more that needs to be done. If it had come out that Joost was entirely at fault I don't really see why they'd throw themselves out of the competition for his sake.

To be honest, regardless of what actually went down, I think it's fairly obvious that the situation was handled appallingly and with a real lack of transparency by the EBU.

The closest I could find to an update is this:

The process is still ongoing - delayed due to foreign witnesses and translation issues. Perhaps a prosecution decision in a few weeks?

Until then, the Dutch broadcaster can fuck off.

I imagine the organisers will be spending much of August sampling to ensure the local saunas MORE than match up to required host city specifications

Yes I hope they make sure the location for the ‘Little Susan Memorial Glory Hole’ is SUITABLY TASTEFUL.
