Love Island (Winter) 2023

I think it generally does pick up a fair amount of viewers on catch-up and other platforms though, no? Or does this include catch up?
It includes catch up, but not other platforms.

For example the launch episode had 1.021m live viewers, a further 536k not live but on the same day (so that total is the 'overnight'), and then a further 1.197m throughout the following week.

I don’t really know if it would amass a lot more viewers on further platforms?

Yes, it did seem that way.

Similarly, Will and Jessie being sent on a date immediately after Will confided (:eyes:) in Shaq and Tanya about what Ellie told him, thus allowing the whole thing to escalate (not that I wasn't screaming at the chain of events as it happened).

For me, the series is lacking any particularly likeable personalities to root for. Indeed, Olivia being about the only one is perhaps why so much drama is being engineered around her. Lana, Tanyel and Zara are among the most sullen, un-endearing people I've ever seen on Love Island in the short time I've watched it. The boys aren't much better, but I sort of understand why they're behaving as they are because the girls seem to react to situations and blame them for things that haven't even played out yet.

Olivia is easily my favourite girl, but I do also like Lana, Tanya and Jessie. I don’t really like ANY of the boys. I feel like the majority of them have a male superiority complex over the girls by faking interest until someone better comes along.

Last summer certainly it did better than any other show in the chart on platform viewing. Looking at what shows like Call The Midwife and EastEnders pulled in when I posted it last week, and considering the Love Island demographic, I think it may add big numbers.

I think it's underachieving, but I don't think it is quite the disaster some tweets I've seen have been suggesting.

I would say once a year is more than enough for Love Island. They are only shortening its natural shelf life by adding a Winter season. Like Big Brother (before it became over saturated with countless CBB’s which I can’t deny I did love) it is a Summer staple and doesn’t feel quite right watching on a dark, freezing winters evening.

I see that there was an episode every day from Monday to Sunday of the first week. Are they all 'new' episodes or are any highlights shows? Just wondering if I should be averaging the lot, or if I need to exclude any.

Aftersun is listed separately so I know about that.

Saturday is a “best bits” show. I don’t watch that, but Sunday to Friday is all footage from the day before.

OH.MY.GOD!!!

If @Music or anyone else who has missed a few episodes are interested in getting involved again watch tonight’s episode. It was ALL KICKING OFF. :disco:

That makes sense - the Saturday show had by some distance the lowest audience (with Sunday next), so I'll calculate the average without it.

@Rita Just watched last night’s episode and I am now hooked again :D Tom really has the emotional intelligence of a potato, what do the girls see in him?! I genuinely thought he was walking over to DECK Zara.

Also Ron seems like a complete arsehole telling Lana that he was basically going to give this new girl a chance but Lana is still his number one… the guys this year are really NOT IT!

Will skipping into the villa with Jessie was giving very much GAY as well as slapping Aaron’s ass and kissing his shoulder :D I don’t really believe she is that into him, she has played the game before and knows he is popular on the outside.

It was SOOOO GOOOOD!!!

I really don’t like the way that Ron, Tom, and Kai are treating the girls. Obviously get to know all the girls you like but you shouldn’t be leading the girls along making them think they are the one whilst keeping your options open.

I always got quite gay vibes from Will but just thought he was one of those camp straight men, but now I’m not so sure.

Tanyel and Zara are looking very vulnerable in the recoupling tonight. I don’t want any of them to leave even though I haven’t particularly warmed to any of them. Tangle showed last night that she is very feisty and I would like to see a lot more of that feistiness from both Zara and Tanyel as I’m not really sure any of the rest of the girls have that in them.

The guys are just so immature with Will probably being the only decent one!

I am worried too we will lose Zara which will be a real shame as she has been the drama we need! I wonder who Ron will pick, probably Lara but she may get picked by Aaron. I hope one of the two new girls go, one of them was barely in the whole episode!

The boys are all varying degrees of awful. Will is alright, but clearly the best of a bad bunch.

I think Ellie may be quite good value. She certainly stirred things up with the Tom kiss. I can’t even remember the other girls name off the top of my head but I think Kai may well go for her, and Ron and Lana will couple up again depending who gets to pick first.

Awk fuck off Zara is dumped 😫

I thought she wasn’t safe as knew if Tom was last to choose he wouldn’t go for her after the comment about his family being proud or whatever it was.

What is happening with Shaq? Was it not just last week he was heavy flirting with Zara whilst coupled up with Tanya? STOP PREACHING WHEN YOU ARE JUST AS BAD.

Shaq seems to be totally playing the game at the minute, especially with him telling Tanya he loves her already 😑

I've gone so far off Ron. I'm now seeing that tiny jaw of his as he smirks and almost not even wanting him to fuck my brains out anymore. Yes it's that bad. Okay the cliffhanger - just starting last night's episode. I totally missed why that new girl would be telling him off for giving her mixed signals - she's not very articulate is she?

Aaron is looking ultra gorge in his B*Witched denim jacket by the fire pit waiting on the girls deliberations. Damnit, I'll bet the keep the vibrator guy.

With it being Liv giving it, I was hoping she would say just Spencer and say he was missing that fun spark. Gosh, I didn't realise it was 2 of them - talk about so obvious which ones would be going. Does Aaron have an onlyfans?

Since the majority of the clothes are all available on ebay or whatever I'm surprised they have anything to pack. Spencer gave nothing TV worthy except an echo of 90s heartthrob goodlooks at a push. The close ups of the girls pretending to be sad are ridiculous.

I want Ron gone. I can't listen to him give his spin on how his actually situation is that he's basically a turd that won't flush at the moment. I am enjoying the guys increasingly seeming irritated by him too.

I love Liv bigging up that she's ready for a, wait for it, hug when we've had other girls in the same fashion share their news that they've had a feel of their man's erection :D

I must have missed Tanya having a chat with Shaq about his tantrum at her winning the kissing contest. That was a no turning back red flag - that behaviour will never change and who the hell wants to appease that nonsense? He would have been binned immediately.

Kai would still be my top top to choose in a hypothetical Love Island series where Kai is fully or mostly gay and I'm 3-5 years younger than him.

So, can we put Lana and Ron in the bin now? They're just this series' Tash and Andrew.

I really feel for Casey, and I hope the public rally behind him. But he seems like a prime candidate to be the bombshell who re-couples in Casa Amor and then gets booted out because he's had an ounce of screen-time.

@Rita - do any of the newer couples (i.e., neither entered the villa during the first 2 - 3 weeks) ever get close to the final, or is it basically dependent on one or both people in a couple having been there from the start?

Yes. I am fed up of them. I was rooting for Alana when she went for Casey but now it looks like she is just going to go running back to Ron.

No, never. Greg entered very late and won with Amber and she was in from day 1 and neither Milly or Liam entered on day one but were both in the villa within the first couple of weeks.

Watching 2 days ago now. Will is more gay than I am, maybe I could "pass" for straight after all.

Ron sneering in most of his close ups is the mask well and truly off. Although Lana clearly wants him more than basket Kase.

Oh Lana, no. Well she deserves phoney Ron if that's the way she's going to discard Kase and telling the girls first.

Still watching and will continue to watch until the end but this series is a bit of a DUD. The cast just aren’t all that likeable and BY GOD I’VE TRIED.

Casa Amor can’t be far away though, and obviously Ron will stray.

Watching Tuesday's episode. Hoped I had seen it before, but that means I've 3 episodes to catch up on. I wonder if we will get a striptease dance as bad as the toff from last year, which was priceless.

Well she did the right thing (eventually), but Ron is like that short muscled guy from a season or 2 ago who clearly just wanted to win. And she did use Case as a safety net/stop gap, but if he sulks too much about it he'll lose the sympathy over it.
