Oh boo, no HDMI socket. (I need to be able to connect it to a monitor at home, but I didn't previously mention that)
It’s not a deal breaker. You can get usb c hubs that will give you more connections like usb a m, HDMI, Ethernet etc. on board ports are more limited these days due to size.

I've no idea if this belongs here.

Has anyone updated their Spotify app lately? Now, when blocked, my phone screen shows a big ass album cover of what I'm listening to, is there a way to avoid this or does everybody at my gym have to know I listen to Tattoo while working out? Yesterday the album cover of whatever I was listening to could be barely seen whenever I blocked my screen.

Click on the album cover - it should put it back to the older view with the smaller album cover

How do I stop Facebook showing me so many things I have no interest in? It's getting progressively worse.

Is there a way to stop Temu from being shoved in my face everywhere? I'm sick of it.

For the last two weeks I haven't been able to playback videos from my phone's camera roll (It's an iPhone 12), I've read that it must have been an ios update that fucked it up and perhaps restarting the phone might help. Has anyone experienced this before?

That happened to me a few weeks ago. I rebooted my phone and it was fine. But it’s very strange.

A simple reboot did the trick! But since IOS17 was announced on par with the new 15 model a few weeks ago, it kind of makes sense :(

Is there a way to download youtube purchased films? I tried using a screen capture, but it was a blank screen. Very annoyed - as if I'd have bought it had it been clear I'd have to always watch on youtube.

Are there any free VPN changers? All the ones I find are "free trial" only.

I wouldn’t recommend using a free VPN. For a start, they don't reliably unblock streaming services, there are fewer server locations to choose from and they usually only allow one device to connect at a time. They also have strict data limits, and are almost always less secure and trustworthy with your data.

I think I'll go with Norton. It's £40 per year after a 30 day free trial - that seems pretty decent.

I would like to buy a camera for me to film videos in both inside and outside.

I'd like to be able to record both talking head vlogs (indoor and outdoor) and be able to mount it to my bike as well. It's got to be easy to use and cost under £300. Reconditioned cameras are fine.

Please can I have some recommendations.

I'd just use the best phone you can get your hands on, and use a stabilising chest mount for cycling.

@Diddy does walking videos so he might have more specific suggestions

I don't have a decent phone. It's a Redmi 10 and is working fine so I don't fancy buying a new one.

Is the DJI Pocket 2 any good?

I plumped for the DJI Pocket 2 Creator Combo. Slightly over my budget. However, having done my research, I think it will be worth it.

Apple watchers/iPad owners, is it likely that there will be a new generation standard iPad before the end of the year?

The current one is the 10th generation, which is £349 from Apple, but I've seen discounts of £20 -£30 with other retailers. I'm assuming that if the 11th generation is released, it's likely to be a little more expensive than that, but also that the 10th generation may then be discounted. But I don't really pay attention to Apple to know if this is a standard pattern.

Just trying to decide if getting the 10th gen for £320 now is a good deal or not, or of I should hold out until the end of the year.

God I paid a grand for my iPad about 5 years ago. I barely even use it now.

I appreciate this post is not helpful. I still have an iPhone 12.

It is expected as they didn’t update the iPad last year

Yes, i was surprised at the prices. This is the standard WiFi one with the smaller memory, but even so. I was just assuming it would easily be north of £500.

It's for a niece's A-levels, and she's confident the standard one is more than sufficient.

I assume they would want it out for Christmas - and then give enough notice for people to be aware of it and want it.

My advice is to buy a reconditioned iPad rather than buy new.
They don't seem significantly cheaper though, unless I go for an older model, and then I would worry about software updates.

It's also for a gift, so buying reconditioned feels a little off.

Does you niece care about the environment? She might actually love to get a reconditioned iPad in the same way that teenagers like second hand clothes and charity shops.

No, not as much as she cares about shiny new things.

I follow a lot of Apple rumor channels and they say we should have an announcement in September along with the iPhone 16 announcement.

The iPad 9 was phased out this year which led to the price drop for the 10 when they released the new iPad Pro and Air

I wonder if they will drop the 10 further? Or else if the 11 will be significantly more expensive? There doesn't seem much point having both at similar price points.

Although actually, amazon have both the 9 and 10 for only about £40 difference - but I assume that's after the drop for the 10.
