The Conservatives: The Wilderness Years (1 Viewer)

I wonder how long until someone throws their hat in the ring.

The hat.

Suella might struggle, if some of the losing Tory speeches last night are anything to go by, she's pretty hated by her colleagues!

I reckon they'll swing behind somebody moderate like Tugendhat, and Su will jump to Reform before long.

How was this decided? And nothing for the SISTERS GRIMM Suella and Priti?

Considering Suella was making her pitch for Rishi's job before he even announced he was standing down, I'm not surprised he's snubbed her.

I imagine there’ll be a reshuffle when the next leader comes in. Clearly no love lost between Rishi and Suella.

Suella is ranting on about Reform being an existential threat to the Conservatives on twitter. Fair enough, but her answer seems to be to turn the Conservatives into Reform.

How is that woeful Helen Whatley still about?

Being a patsy during COVID is paying dividends for her.

I do think Suella is in with a chance. I'm calling it being either her or Cleverly.

Too many of the Tories genuinely think Reform are the reason they lost. Because it couldn't possibly have been their being simultaneously EVIL and INCOMPETENT, a la Dick Dastardly.

Oh I didn't realise Rishi formed the shadow cabinet. I thought he was resigning straight away. More of the same then!

I have the feeling Suella is too far right and too extreme for the Tories to go running to now. everyone knows she's insane and after the Truss experiment and the general move back to the centre, plus the rejection of the right across the channel, they probably wouldn't be in a rush to make her their leader and turn themselves into a fringe opposition party on the hard right. but who knows.

they'd be better off choosing Priti Patel if they want a leader from the right of the party.

Oh, she's against mutilated children and occupied territory now is she?

Why are they so obsessed with ideology when they should be focused on being public servants? It's the main reason they lost, but here's Suella doubling down... she could be putting together a plan to "rebuild the country in 2029" but no, she wants to attend a lecture and talk about FLAGS

They're all so fucking deluded!

Sue-Ellen is just a pathetic excuse for a human being. The fact that the people she is pandering to would have her on the next boat out of the country is so obviously lost on her.

Honestly I think it is Badenoch’s to lose. She is consistently at the top of ConservativeHome’s League Table of the most popular cabinet members among Tory members and close rivals such as Penny Mordaunt have just lost their seats.

Braverman obviously not in the most recent poll but Cleverly strictly MID TABLE. The Fulham of the most recent governing Tory cabinet.

One way or the other, they're just going to get worse and worse for the next two years. They might as well pick Badenoch, spend some time trying to punch Labour in the metaphorical dick over how they have a black woman as leader which makes them the real progressives (:eyes:), let her fail because the same people who wouldn't vote for a brown man won't vote for her either, get rid in 2026 and then move back to the centre for 2029.

Oh I'd be gobsmacked if whoever replaces Sunak is still there in 2029.

They're clearly going to go full NAZI first

I’m torn. Because full, batshit, Suella-style Nazi gives them no chance of winning, I truly believe that, but it DOES give those beliefs a very public platform and a veneer of credibility.

I feel like the horse has bolted with that one. The moment they elected Boris Johnson as leader, they made the decision to go full populist. The party needs to understand that going further and further to the right will see them extinct because their centrist vote will move to the Lib Dems and the far right will shift to Reform and their non-existent AI candidates.

Well Suella seems to be getting a much bigger backlash for her flag comments than I expected.

Good.

Did we hear that Discovery+ is going to be airing a MOGG fly on the wall documentary?

I hope there'll be footage of him screaming at Nanny after losing his seat.

She's probably fucked. Saying she'd let Farage in is a red line for a lot of Tory MPs. Jenrick is likely to do better than her.

Tom Tugendhat is looking likely to do a lot better this time than last time - the right of the party lost a lot more seats than the middle last week. Still think Badenoch will take it on home though.
