What are you gaming? 2021

Resi VII was everything in VR - not sure how I would feel about it if I had played it normally. There were some iffy bits like the House of Horrors segment, but VR made it bearable.

RE in VR? I would literally DIE :D

Honestly one of the scariest things I've experienced! A shame though it doesn't live up to the house section at the start. Running around wondering if the creepy family members, especially the dad, are about to jump out and start chasing you is one of the best gaming sections ever.

Nothing until next week, I guess. I don't have the bandwidth to work from my home office for 9 hours per day, 7 days a week and then stare at my Switch in the evening.

But I reckon I'll pick up Mario Aces again, some Animal Crossing.

And I'm alpha-testing a sports game on my laptop right now, which is also quite interesting.

I have started Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom which was in my to-do list for a couple of years now, what a game so far! It's the perfect evolution of Dragon's Trap with a sprinkle of Wonder Boy in Monster World and MWIV. It was so good I played it for about 4 hours straight!

It's bright, upbeat and cheery but also NOT A BREEZE and the music is incredible, they've reeled in Koshiro, Yamane and Sakuraba all in one game :disco:

Oh my when the sax kicks in here :disco: :disco: :disco:

It took me two and a half hours last night to beat a Valkyrie in God of War :disco:

It’s kind of addictive as you slowly get better and better and understand the plays and now I want MOAR!!

has/is anyone playing Greedfall? it's free this month on Playstation Plus. it looks like it could be a decent RPG
I've played this this last week. It's okay. Mission and choice-based games always suck me in and this no exception. The combat is a bit clunky (but I always try to avoid that as much as possible) and the storyline isn't quite gripping. It's fine for a freebie and I reckon I'll get a good second week of entertainment from it. Probably till the gameplay gets too difficult. :bruised:

I purposefully played this one first as I'm sure I'll prefer Tomb Raider so I saved it.

I noticed you were playing it :side-eye: I read the quests are well written, and that is by and large the most important aspect of an RPG

I started the other way around though so have a good handful of hours of torture porn with Lara Croft before I dig in

Okay I'm hours into Hollow Knight and I'm completely in love. I can't put it down. Everything about this is so beautiful, the music and characters are mesmerising, and the gameplay has so much variety and depth for something that on the surface looks so basic. They give so much with the enemies, the way there's always new ones with completely different moves and strategies as you go on, constantly pushing you. And I love the openness of the path so it's not as straightforward as level after level. Eventually linking the areas up via one great big map is so satisfying.

Not that had any benefit from the charms yet really, except the map one (which feels like it should be there automatically) and the Geo sweep up charm.

Fighting the Hornet girl in Greenpath actually felt magical, just the perfect marriage of challenging you with a tough enemy and making you use what you've learned so far, with all the gorgeous stylings of the world and story. I don't want this to end!

Hooray! This is exactly how I felt about it :D You will find more charms as you continue, and a lot of them interact with each other differently so you can really create different BUILDS which I appreciated.

THAT said...it's now beginning to get REALLY hard in places so I'm slightly scared as I'm only halfway through :D I'm sure the screaming is only hours away and all "omg this is amazing" will be long forgotten.

How do they interact with each other, is it obvious? I know Salubra (:disco:) mentioned it, but then I forgot and she(?!) didn't speak of it again. I tried to look online briefly but gave up, hoping it would become apparent as time went on. So far it's been fine without any except the map and coin ones, but I know it's going to get insane soon.

Also this really is Dark Souls/Bloodborne in 2D form. Which means it's PERFECT

You'll get ones that improve your nail, some for traversal, magic etc - it will all make sense!

The thing about the difficulty is that I rarely found it UNFAIR, it really does make you feel like things are achievable and each defeat is a leaning experience.

As previously discussed there are a few sections where the bench placement is a BIT questionable :eyes:

I know you’re all thrilled by my God of War updates so I’d just like to tell you I have beat all the Valkyries (apart from the Queen) and have the infinity gauntlet :disco:

I’ll probably complete the realm tears in Niflheim and the Valkyrie Queen and then finally put the game down... maybe...

Let us know how many tries it takes you to beat the queen.

I've kind of encountered that already, in the Fungal Waste area, with the Mantis Lords boss. It's not too frustrating, but as far as I can see there are two bench options and both aren't exactly close. I dread to think of how much worse it'll get as this is only about my fourth boss :D Took me about 10-15 attempts as it is...

It's difficult because I'm at the point where I don't know what the most appropriate area is to tackle next as everything starts opening up quite quickly, so I'm just casually exploring. It's not always obvious in terms of difficulty because it makes you feel like most of them are doable. I'm completely and utterly lost in it all, in a GOOD way.

I would recommend not tackling the Mantis Lords until you've got a couple of health and nail upgrades, though they ARE doable early if you really want!

I just did the most horrendous bit of platforming that involved bouncing repeatedly on your sword on spiky centipedes (in a spike pit!), and jumping across two or three spike-covered pillars, involving wall jumping, back onto said centipede as you follow it along...oh my god the HELL of it all :D

...followed by bouncing on a centipedes mouth about ten times to reach a high platform. And you can't fuck up ONCE, or its back to the start. The sheer cheek of not even putting a checkpoint in there is ultimate trolling but the satisfaction of finally getting there is immense!

I got one nail upgrade and one extra mask so it was okay. It just took a few attempts, and the bench not being close didn't help.

Some of the platforming filled me so much rage, I don’t think I was able to do the centipedes till near the end cause I’m so crap and the bouncing thing.

I’m chugging along with FF7 Remake and finally think I have a handle on it. The market chapter with the dance has been the most fun and battles finally don’t feel super chaotic.

It still feels a bit anemic for a modern game, you’re just forced down a path to hit the story beats. There are no secrets, none of the material feel special, it’s all very standard.

Again I wasn't sure I was supposed to even BE there yet, but it became clear it was doable with wall jump and dash and figured the game wasn't going to give me much else to help.

The bouncing on mushrooms in the acid pool rooms is even worse than this I think!

I bought Lego Superheroes 2 and so far it’s a bit of a hot mess, too many characters to learn and too much storyline and animation chopping up the free play. But still enjoying it :D

For me it’s still

Lego City > Lego Jurassic > Lego Superheroes 2

does anyone recommend any others? The more open world they are the better really.

I beat her :disco: Game changer was the pack of wolves Arteus runic attack knocking her off her guard and allowing me to PILE in with fucking everything.

Think I’m done. Collecting the mists in Niflheim is too grindy and I pretty much have most things and also no reason to need those things now the Queen is dead.

It’s been a pleasure.

I've done Shadow of the Tomb Raider now, it was actually great! the sets are amazing with all the religious mythology. combat and puzzles aren't heavy so it's a fast paced breeze

What other games like that would you recommend? I love those and Assassin's Creed but am always on the lookout for something else. Only have an Xbox which I know rules out certain options.

well I was gonna recommend Uncharted which expanded on the original Tomb Raider games (and now the new Tomb Raider games rely heavily on the Uncharted formula) but that's PS exclusive! older Prince of Persia games perhaps?

sadly I don't think there are that many adventure games of the same ilk and scope as Uncharted or Tomb Raider. the Batman: Arkham series and Hitman would be my best bet...

I just remembered Deadlight. it's a side-scrolling action-adventure, available on Xbox too. a bit short but good!

Yep Uncharted is the one I'm gutted to miss out on... although I wonder how cheap PS4s are now *strokes chin*

I haven't played it myself yet but you might have fun with Star Wars: Fallen Order

Still obsessed

I've put in 40+ hours somehow and still loads to do. Bosses getting much harder now, and all these surprise upgrades/spells/the dream nail. The DEPTH!

Properly in love with all the characters. Just listened to every single one of Zote's 57 precepts

Precept Forty-Three: 'Never Forgive'. If someone asks forgiveness of you, for instance a brother of yours, always deny it. That brother, or whoever it is, doesn't deserve such a thing.

:D

Hollow Knight update, because nothing else matters in life.

It just took me about two hours to finally beat this little fucker (in dream form, so worse than the Soul Master)

300

...even with a double upgraded nail, decent health and plenty of charms oh god was this painful. All that effort to down him and dodge attacks only for the dreaded PHASE 2 which gives you ZERO opportunity to heal. I screamed, and screamed again when I won.

Such a bullshit move with the "trick" stomp attack which you go to avoid, but he restarts the animation above you making it almost impossible to dodge. That's the only time so far a move has really fucked me off and ventured into unfair territory..

The Grimm Troupe boss is even worse so I've left him well alone for now but at least the bench is right next door...

Grimm is hard, but wait until you see HIS dream version! Holy shit is all I can say, I had to just give up on that one.
